Robert Brolin

"I had already researched and interviewed other surgeons and concluded that Dr. Brolin would be a preferable match before I even met him. I knew quite a bit already about his practice and background.rnProfessionally, he is impressive.rnPersonally, I had read that, while he's certainly not unpleasant, he is more a scientist and offers less relationally. I know this is silly but I want it all----perfectly skilled surgeon and warm and fuzzy as well. I tend to be emotionally hypersensitive when in the whole medical model (Which is why I typically steer clear of it) and was concerned about vulnerability and depression.rnrnI met him and found him to be just delightful. Unassuming and humble, he was able to answer all of my questions. Frankly, if I'd have kept quiet I suspect I would have had no questions. He was already quite comprehensive in his explanations. He was practical in his assessments and, I felt that his extensive experience lent itself to the ability to make valid predictions regarding the 'success' I may expect to see. He was calm and casual and yet professional and reassuring. The reassurance I sensed had more to do with his countenance and reserve than his actual interaction. rnrnIn terms of his competence, I was particularly impressed by the fact that he transitioned from routine 'open' technique to nearly exclusive lap procedures. He has been in practice for many years and still, he avails himself to evolving as technology allows. Teachability is very attractive to me. His motivation for switching to a laproscopic technque (according to his answer to me) was patient outcome/recovery. Additionally, he claims he has a better vantage point (magnified images) with this procedure. I appreciated that his committment to patient well-being superceded the human tendancy toward resisting change. He had been doing these procedures one way for many years. Some doctors refuse to change what they know.rnrnAdditionally, his attention to detail and ready recall regarding another patient's statistics gave me the emotional peace I needed. He obviously has an interest in is patients or he wouldn't be so in touch with their specific outcomes. rnrnMy surgery is in three days so I will have more to contribute then but, I would HIGHLY recommend this surgeon. Not only do I believe he is skilled in his field but I am grateful that he left me more empowered than vulnerable."
