My name is Krista Miguet. I live in Northeast Arkansas with my husband, 10 yr old daughter and our 2 dogs. I am a nurse and work in a Family Practice Clinic.
I have been overweight my entire life, along with the rest of my family...gotta love those family genes...lol!!! I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 9 yrs ago, when my daughter was a year old. I also have severe acid reflux and degenerative joint disease that causes horrible pain in my hips, legs and feet.
I have tried every diet you can think of, done Weight Watchers, diet pills... you name it, I've tried it. I would lose minimal weight, but always gained it back and then some. I entertained the idea of weight loss surgery several years ago, but never seriously pursued anything. The turning point for me was when my dad died 2 1/2 yrs ago. My dad died from kidney failure related to diabetes....all which started from obesity. My dad was a fighter and fought as long and as hard as he knew how. Watching him go through everything he went through made me decide I needed to turn my life around now in order to be here for my daughter.
I went to my first bariatric seminar in July 2009 and was so excited to get the ball rolling. Unfortunately, I didn't get far, as my insurance would not pay a dime towards surgery. At that time, paying out of pocket was not an option for me and my husband. In August of this year, I was given the opportunity to finance surgery and that's where my story begins.
I had my Gastric Sleeve on 11/08/2010. Since as of today, I am only 1 week out, I don't have much insight, yet, but I will get there and can't wait to meet other people who have traveled the same road I'm on!!
