Healing is beginning
Jul 22, 2011
I am on my second week after surgery and I am having a difficult time getting all the liquids and proteins down. I am increasing each day but it is hard. I look forward to not having to monitor every bite that goes into my mouth. My liver feels inflamed and I called the nurse, but she is on vacation. I talked to another nurse and she said It was from the surgery. I have had this feeling before and it was well before my surgery. I do have a fatty liver. I was told that some time ago. I wish they would have went into some detail. I look forward to meeting with my surgeon on the 27th of July to reassure me that everything is fine. My ankles look smaller, but the rest of me still looks the same. My clothes aren't even loose. I know I need to be patient.

Group Briefing
Nov 06, 2010
My HAP insurance required me to go to a group seminar at the hospital to learn about each procedure possible and the dietary changes that would be required. I made it through and got a great binder with so much good information from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. The seminar was too long and could have been shortened by an hour at least. It was like 6 hours long. I also have my appt. w/ the surgeon on Nov. 17th. Slowly moving ahead. I am having some trouble keeping my hands off of sweets. I am trying to practice before I have to start dieting. I have to stop telling myself "just one" or "this is the last time I will eat this".

August Update
Sep 18, 2010
In August I contacted the surgeon's office and they took my information and told me to expect a letter when things were processed. I received a letter stating my PCP would have to write a letter to the insurance to get an authorization number before I could see the surgeon. It took my PCP about 2 and a half weeks to get HAP the info. HAP called me the next day and told me to set up a psych evaluation and gave me the authorization to cover it. I will have my evaluation Sept 24th. After HAP receives confirmation that I passed the psych eval, I will be given an authorization to proceed. They said it would take about 2 weeks.

The stress test
Jul 09, 2010
July 9, 2010 - Took my stress test today and will have to wait a week for the results. I guess I will have to see my doctor and find out where I need to go from here if the test comes back ok. I sure hope I can get this started before 2011. I know I still have alot to do yet. So tired of being fat. Going to try
www.diabeticconnect.com for some recipes. I know I need to learn to eat differently and I need to find simple meals that I can enjoy or I won't have a prayer of succeeding. Can't see me able to live on protein shakes forever. I love to keep it simple, but I don't think my mind would be satisfied.

Support Group Visit
Jun 19, 2010
I just went to my first support group visit. My new friend Paul (my husband's friend) took me to his. I got a lot of information and a lot of encouragement. My husband went also, to learn how to support me. He's so sweet.
Some of the people even brought their before and after pictures. I feel very reassured that I am making the right decision. Paul has also offered to help me on this journey, so I feel like I have hit the lottery. I know this will be easier having someone to answer questions or just give me the pep talk if I need it. This is a very drastic life change made over a short period of time. I want to encourage people to seek out a support group. If you are post op you have so much to offer people looking for information.

My First Step 6/14/2010
Jun 14, 2010
Today I went to my pcp to have the test done and ask for an insurance referral. My doctor seems optimistic and has done my ekg, blood work, breathing test (for asthma). Now I guess it's time to wait on the test results.
