In the beginning...

Mar 04, 2013

My husband of almost 15 years and I are both heavy and have Type 2 diabetes that is out of control on medication and we both decided we needed to make a drastic change in our lives so we would be around for each other for a while.  I am 56 years old and currently taking 1000mg of metformin twice a day, along with 50U of Novilin 70/30 and 50U of Levemir in the mornings and 100U of Levemir at night.  If that isn't enough, I take Humalog on a sliding scale at mealtimes. I am at my wits end with it all and know in my heart that if one of us does the surgery, in order to be successful, we BOTH need to do it together.  We have discussed and researched long and hard about this issue and have come to the conclusion that this is what is going to be best for our health and our future.  It's not about losing the weight for me, its more about getting off so many meds, feeling better and being more healthy!  So here we go on our journey together, we are going to our first seminar about the weight loss surgery this Saturday morning.  Wish us luck!!
