Well this has been a very tough decision for me.  I haven't always been overweight but I'm sick of the struggle with my body.  When I was about 5 years old I was diagnosed with epliepsy and the medication I was put on was for adults.  Shortly after I started it I gained a lot of weight and wasn't able to do the things normal kids do so I spent most of the time in the pool because I thought no one could see how fat I was when I was in the water.  So sad... At 11 my epilepsy corrected itself and I went off the meds and wow did the weight fall off.  It was great I was a healthy active teen with no body issues which is amazing considering what some of my friends thought of thier bodies.  At 18 I got awful awful heartburn that just wouldn't go away, I've been on many different meds for it and had several tests done to try and figure out the cause.  After years of looking for answers I was told that my body is just producing too much acid and there really isn't anything we can do to stop it.  Being on meds for excess acid has caused me to put on a lot (100lbs) of weight as there really isn't any acid left to digest the food i'm eating so my body absorbs more of the calories and fat.  I spoke to my GP who is fantastic and he told me to look into WLS, with his help and guidance I found Dr. Reed.  I am having the RNY surgery on Oct 21 2009 and this will help me lose the weight that I can't seem to lose and move the acid into my intestines so I will no longer feel the pain all day.  I am so looking forward to not having the burning in my throat.  I am very scared about the surgery but I know I will have a healthier life afterwards.
