Real Chocolate

"The flavor isn't a strong chocolate flavor. It has 50 grams of protein per serving and that is the good news. You can always spruce up the flavor, by adding a little peanut butter, a banana or some coffee."

John Butsch

"I was referred to Dr.Butsch by a good friend who was scheduled to have him perform an Open RNY for her.I was a little apprehensive because I had already had a bad experience with another surgeon. I had seen his web site and there was a picture of him on it. So, I knew that he was young and that was never a problem. In fact, his age was a plus, in my opinion. He was very "up front" with me about all of the risks and assured me that I could have the surgery Lap, since that was a concern of mine. His staff was very friendly and Renata, his assistant,is the best. "

Rush Presbyterian St Luke Medical Center

"The Hospital has valet parking for $6.00 if you are handicapped or a senior. This is for the entire day. I felt that it was as clean, if not more so than others and tried their best to manage the pain. I cannot say much about the pain, as I was on ice chips or pureed foods. I was also in the rehab and I think it is a wonderful place doing a lot of good work.I would return there in a minute."

ADAM CIFU

"Dr.Cifu Is a very compassionate man and has a good bedside manner. He encouraged me to look for another surgeon, when the first one denied me. He is very supportive of my WLS. I have been seeing him for about six years."

John Alverdy

"I've waited a long time berore I would even talk about my experience with Dr. Alverdy.First of all, it took eleven months before I could see him. I met with him october 23, 2002 and I was approved by his staff and by Medicaid by November 19, 2002. They had informed me that it would be Spring before I would get a date. So, I waited. In March I called the office to se why I hadn't heard anything and was told that his team had my file and I should hear from them within two weeks or to call back. Well, of course, nobody called and I called again. His Nurse, Pat, told me that she would definitely look into it. In about four days, a member of his staff called, only to say that I would not be haviong the surgery, because my LIVER ENZYMES had been elevated in the past and this surgery was hard on the liver. I was devastated! Where was this coming from? After waiting eighteen months, a big letdown.I immediately met with my PCP and he showed me where my LIVER FUNCTION TESTS had been in normal limits for the last seven years or more.He said that they were full of it and he wrote them to ask what was the problem. Well, when I saw my PCP the next time, he could only tell me that Dr. Alverdy's staff told him that I was not "the BEST candidate" for the surgery. After being Medically Approved for the DS, now I'm not the BEST CANDIDATE. This was it! I could not believe it. I am a patient at the University of Chicago Hospital and have been for over thirty years, so all of my records were right there. After talking with quite a few people in the Medical Field, we came to the conclusion that this decision of his was personal! He probably had a problem with my insurance and he couldn't very well tell me that, because the hospital does accept Medicaid. I was encouraged by my PCP to find another surgeon and that is what I did. I am having a Lap RNY, September 16th and I plan to walk up to Dr. Alverdy's office when I am at goal and let them see how fine and healthy I am. I wouldn't let Dr. Alverdy do my surgery if he paid me to do it. This is how I feel about this doctor."
