I am 35 years old and a single mom to two daughters - Angellyn is 12 and Natalie is 7.
My story sounds similar to many - I have always been the fat girl. I remember doing my first diet in 6th grade and being called "thunder thighs" and my gitano jeans being called "giganto".
I have yo-yo'ed up and down most of my adult life. I lost 83# on Weight Watchers probably 6 years ago - but it found its way home and brought friends.
I made the decision this November to go forward with the surgery - although I have been reading about it and researching it for probably at least a year. I had my Lap RNY GP on March 17,2008.
I look forward to being healthier and have enough energy to keep up with my daughters.
March 10, 2009 Update:
I am almost 1 year out - what an amazing journey! I have lost about 140 pounds and currently weigh almost 1/2 of what I weighed a year ago.
I think the greatest things I have gained in this year are the many new friends I have made that have walked the journey with me. It is great to have this support system that will cheer my successes and kick my butt when I need it. This board is a great tool and I really look forward to the Saturday coffee groups.
I have also gained my health - at my 9 month appointment we were able to put "Resolved" in all but one of my medical conditions - including taking the word "Obesity" off my health chart. Wow!
I have gained a new sense of respect for myself and my health and made a priority out of taking care of myself. That has been a big change for me.
Watch for 1 year photos to be posted soon!
