gaining traction

5/8/10 - I've been on here for a while, but never updated this. So here goes.  My story.... I've been heavy since I was a kid.... but especially since I started having kids, its gone from heavy to really... yeah. I think in particular when my diabetes started when I had the babies, since then I have packed on a *lot* and its *all* in my middle... and thats when all my health issues have come on. Health issues include: type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea (with an air level of 16-19... whee), hernia, GERD, Celiac Disease (not weight related... auto-immune disease), borderline cholesterol, borderline hypertension, and now uncontolled asthma has been added. I'm really in need of a major change! I've been pursuing the surgery for a few months now (considered for years before that but did not get serious) and have determined that a Vertical Sleeve is definitely the best/safest option for me, especially considering my celiac (which does intestinal damage and can cause malabsorption, so I don't want more of that).

My highest weight was this time last year... 307 lbs. I measured myself at the time and (can't believe I'm writing this) I was 64" around the middle... and I am 64.5" tall. I knew I had to change. I started weight watchers and have been working... have lost 22lbs in a year. I'm proud of that, but my health issues have not gotten less in that time, some have gotten more... need a much bigger and stronger change. I'm ready. I have to get through 4 more nutritionist visits and some other appointments (sigh) first though, so the surgery wont be till this fall (or possibly late summer)... can't wait!!!
