7 weeks out

Sep 06, 2007

Well, here it is....about 7 weeks out and I cant beleive how good I feel.  I am losing about 5 pounds per week!!  I am now down 57 pounds from my highest, and 37 pounds since surgery.  I am HIGHLY motivated to be down 85 pounds (from surgery date)  by my birthday on November 26th.  I am am currently on a "cooked soft diet" which is going great.  I have no problems with any food and am ready for a regular diet as tolerated.  I will be advancing on Sep 17.  I joined Curves this week and am going faithfully every day.   I went back to work on Labour Day (how appropriate!!) and even though it was only a 3 day week I felt really tired by Friday.  I am glad I am off for 4 days.  Its a good way to ease myself into work.  I realized that I am late for my B12 shot so that may account for the excessive fatigue.  I got the shot yesterday so hopefully it will help.  I have an eye infection (stupid mistake with very old contact lenses) so I dont know if my eyes are tired from the infection of if I am really tired.  I hope the drops work quickly.

Thats all for now....Future updates to come.

3 1/2 Weeks out

Aug 11, 2007

Well, so far so good.  I cant beleive how good I feel and how easy things have been for me.  I keep expecting to wake up to some sort of nightmare!!

I have absolutely NO problem with my food.  I  am still on purees, which is getting kind of boring, but I know it wont last for long.

This is what I have been eating...

1/2 cup cream of wheat
1 scrambled eggs
1/2 cottage cheese with applesauce, drained mandarine oranges
                  or baby food fruit
1/4 cup instant garlic mashed potatoes
1 filet of Tilapia (white fish)
1/4 cup frozen mashed squash
1/4-1/2 cup sugar free, fat free yogurt or pudding
1/2 cup pureed chicken with fat free club house gravy
1/2 cup pureed Blue Menu Chicken Meatballs, pureed with spaghetti sauce
sugar free popsicles  (Chapmans)
sugar free/fat free fudgesicles  (Chapmans)
1/4-1/2 cup of tuna (which doesnt go down very well...yet...but then again, I never was a big fan of tuna

NO!!  I dont eat that all in one day!!  LOL...A typical day would be...
yogurt or egg for breakfast
protein drink mid morning
fish and squash or potatoes for lunch
popsicle or fudgsicle mid afternoon
pureed chicken and gravy, or pureed meatballs and sauce for supper
protein drink in the evening.

A couple of things I have learned along the way.  I like things really REALLY cold, so I went and bought a "Slushie" maker.  Yummy!

I dont like using milk with the shakes.  Water makes them much better.

I dont like things foamy so I dont make my drinks in the blender

I use a hand blender to make my purees instead of the magic bullet.  MUCH EASIER.

I use "Fitday" to track everything, and my average calorie intake has been about 600 calories per day and about 95-100 gms of protein per day.
Thats all for now.  I will update next week when I go back to Rochester.

Good luck to all

STUFF I LIKE AND DONT LIKE

Jul 25, 2007

As of today, this is what I like

Atkins Advantage shakes
EAS shakes  (dark chocolate is REALLY good, Vanilla makes me gag)
Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes  (premixed)
high protein pudding that I got a GNC (20 gms)

I make a shake out of the following  - 1/2 Scoop Elite Butter Toffee Cream Protein Powder, 1 full scoop ON Gold Standard Instanstized Chocolate Protein Powder and about 1/4 tsp instant cofee.  Make it really really cold, and it is kind of like an Iced Cappachino.

I made another shake today out of Whey Gourmet Strawberry Banana powder mixed with water.  Then I added about 1/2 a packet of raspberry Presidents Choice drink mix (just like Crystal Lite but generic brand).  I made some snow in my slushee maker and mixed it all together.  It was very good and refreshing

One thing I have learned is....I'm gonna have to get used to wasting food.  It either doesnt taste good, or it doesnt go down good.

This is what I DO NOT like
Stacker Protein Water
Whey Gourmet protein powder  (yeah yeah,,,see above!!)
Weider Protein drink singles powder
pretty much ANYTHING that starts out as a powder.  UGH

Today is the first day at home as a post-op RNY patient.  I am 1 week post op and am down 16 pounds from my preop visit on July 9/07.  Today I ate a high protein pudding, some cream of chicken soup (blended), 2 protein shakes, 2 ounces of pureed chicken with fat free Clubhouse gravy, and a popsicle.  Everything went down just fine and it all stayed down.
