Decision not to tell co-workers about surgery ahead of time

Jun 19, 2012

Hi.  I mentioned that I was thinking of bariatric surgery to two of my sister-in-laws who had the bypass.  However, one gained all their weight back and one never  lost all that she should .  They both told me not to get it done.  Then I mentioned it to a friend who is a runner and is thin and she told me not to get it done.  I stopped telling anyone of that.

I did tell my supervisor, who is supportive, but told her I have not told anyone in the office.  Also, my husband is supportive of my decision.

The other day two co-workers were talking about a local celebrity who had the bypass surgery and the one person said that weight loss surgery is really dangerous, because then you gain the the weight back and and the person's stomache will explode.  Ok - that made me feel like I don't even want to tell people after I have the surgery.

Any comments from anyone that felt like they did not want to tell anyone and heard odd comments like this?
