I am a 50 year old female living in Carencro, LA. Over the past 15 years I have continuously added 5 to 10 pounds a year on average. With me being 5' 10" and my heaviest weight at 260 lbs. with so many joint issues, I knew it was time to do something about it. I had never considered weight loss surgery didn't think I was a candidate my BMI was between 35 and 40 and I wasn't actually close to being 100 lbs overweight but very close. The 260 lbs. was distributed equally throughout my body. But what a wake up call - I was closer to 300 lbs. than 200 lbs.! Almost 2 years ago my sister (obesityhelp name "bigdada") asked me to attend a Lap-Band seminar in Lafayette, LA. When we attended the subject matter really peaked our interest but our only concern was that the seminar was being supported by a group of physicians in Mexico! This really concerned us when the package included the surgery, air fare, hotel accommodations and a Shopping Spree! Not for me! I left the thought of weight loss surgery for over year and then went through a separation in my marriage. All along my weight was a huge issue in my marriage and was not supported by my spouse to have any type of surgery. Well when the separation occurred I revisited the idea and started revisiting the idea again. This time for Me! Well time moves on quickly, my sister had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy in May of 2007 and I had the Lap-Band surgery in October of 2007!
