new to site and need help - first ever blog

Jul 05, 2010

Hello,

I am 26 year old mother of a beautiful 16month old baby boy. I have been on the larger side my whole life, with a brief weight loss before college. I have reached an uncontrollable weight of 285 pounds. 60 of which i gained during the pregnancy and have not been able to get it off. I actually weighed more when I left the hospital. I have been on 3 different diets and they have not wworked because as soon as I get off them I gain the weight in weeks.

I am considering surgery. I am going to attend a help group for people who have already had the surgery or are going to have the surgery. I am hoping they will be able to give me a lot of in site into making the decision. I am from Ontario Canada and I am not sure how to approach my doctor about the idea of the surgery. I know he thinks diet and exercise is the way to go, but sometimes you need the extra tool to get you going.

If anyone can give me a few suggestions or tips on how to approach my doctor about this, it would be great. I know I would have to obtain a referral from him so that I can submit papers for OHIP coverage, but what happens if my doctor won't refer me?

looking forward to getting responses. :)
