The Other Side

Well, I am 8 days post op.
Surgery day (day 1)was bad. I react badly to pain meds/anethesia. I hallucenate and don't like it.
Day 2 - had to stay on pain meds untll around 9, then they took it off and gave me different kind of liguid. Much better. Lots of soreness but I only had real pain in 2 of my 6 incisions.
Day 3 - Much better but I stayed in because I had an allergic reaction to the other pain med.
Day 4 - Home to the lounger. Hard to get in and out of the lounger but once I was in a comfortable spot, I was fine. I only took one dose of pain meds this day, just because of the traveling.
Day 5 - Cooked my own breakfast. No real pain, discomfort at the 2 sites. Get tired easily
Day 6 - Same as 5, a little better. Still get tired.
Day 7 - Same as 6, a little better. Still get tired. I am a teacher and I could have gone to work with some tylenol if I had to.
Today, I went to my manicure/pedicure appt and then went to sit at the hospital with my daughter. I was tired after the activity but other then discomfort when I get up or down, I felt fine.
Over all, this had not been bad at all. I had trouble getting in my water/protein on Monday but with careful planning and paying attention, I have been able to get in all of my water/protein each day. You have to stay on top of it since I can't get in any extra yet. I am measuring my "meals" carefully so that I don't go over the 2 oz. requirement. I eat about 1 and 1/2 oz for each meal and my nighttime snack. So far, I have only eaten eggs, cottage cheese, cheese, canned peaches, and cheese grits. Sounds boring, but easy on the stomach. I figure it took me years to get here so I can take a little time off of creative foods items.

Well, I met with the surgeon today for the first time. I am looking at an August surgery date. I wish it could be sooner but I am going to see my husband in Germany this summer and I don't want to give that up so I have to wait. The surgeon said it would not be safe to have a May surgery and then leave the country within the month so the waiting continues......everyone I had talked to said my insurance is usually easy and quick to respond so when I get all my tests done, it should be quick to get my approval. Cross your fingers.
