Hello -
My name is Lisa and have been fighting my weight all my life. After trying everything (and I do mean everything!), I finally found Dr. Felix Speigel, in Houston and had the Lap-Band Operation. I lost over 100 pounds in the first year! My photos should be up soon. I have learned so much over the past year and 1/2. I have so many positive things to say about my surgery. It has changed my life. But there were a few things I did (or didn't do) that caused problems for me. First, I must say I am not the best at following directions, never have...
I followed my doctors orders and my weight began to drop off. After I ran out of my second bottle of liquid vitimins, I neglected to continue with any suppliments. I also didn't began exercising right away. Bad Idea! I noticed more hair in my hairbrush... I thought, everyone loses a little hair after surgery. After losing even more hair, I thought, perhaps my hormones... then finally; wake up Lisa, I was not getting enough protein in my diet. I am sure that is what was causing my hair loss and I am sure I lost muscle mass as well as fat in that time period. I began taking multipe vitimins again and a folic acid suppliment. It was incredible how fast my body responded. After a few months, I could actually see tiny little hairs popping up all over my head. I have short, very straight hair. At one point, it felt like I was wearing a "cap" or something on my head.... I had so much more hair close to my scalp then what had already grown out. (make sense?) My hair dresser couldn't beleive all the new hair growth. I learned a valuable lesson. This is just one of them. I have many more. I never attended a support group through my process and looking back I should have. I do feel better then I have in a long time and am very happy with my surgery. My quest now is to began a good exercise routine. I went from wearing a size 20+ to a size 6-8! I bought a "bow-flex", hopefully I can add some muscle back to my body. I say that as I sit at my computer and my bow-flex is right next to me, folded up and collecting dust! I will start today, and will update my story with my workout results! Good luck to everyone out there!
I am looking forward to getting information from others like myself and welcome any questions any newcomer might have.
Sincerely,
Lisa
