Please allow me 2 introduce myself I'm a man of health in haste

Feb 26, 2009

Hello there!
My name is Bruce and I have been heavy my entire life. When I was 7 years old I was misdiagnosed with Cushings disease and then again with a brain tumor. I was the height and weight of the average 13 year old with the skeleton to carry it. After many tests, my mother was told I would stop growing tall by the age of 14, but that I would battle my weight my entire life. At age 9 I was 5' 5" and weighed over 170lbs. At 11 I was 5'9" and over 200lbs. At age 13 I was 5'11 and at 275lbs. At 15 I reached 6'0", 300lbs, and size 48 in jeans. I found football and weight lifting and dropped my weight down to 230lbs and my waist size 42.
I left high school and my weight lifting and found college life and my first girlfriend. I ballooned to 350lbs wore a size 52. Then three months before my wedding I joined weight watchers and dropped 75 lbs. The night of my honeymoon I stopped going and never went back....I've roller coasted ever since. I've joined gyms, done diets, gone to doctors begging for pills.
I reached my biggest in December of last year, tipping the scale 4 weeks before surgery at 447lbs, and I'm sure I put on even more before I got my surgery date. I was tight-waisted in size 62 pants when I was told I was expecting my first baby.
At age 23 I promised myself I wouldn't be fat at 30 years old, and I had failed. I failed to understand that I couldn't do it on my own, and that I needed help. I failed to see that my pride was keeping me for getting the help that I needed.
My 30th birthday, my new baby, and a nice slap of reality from my italian aunt, snapped me out of my rut. I NEEDED to stay healthy, I NEEDED to be able to live, and I NEEDED help.
My family supported me, my friends supported me, and after 3 1/2 weeks I'm down almost 50lbs and already feel the difference.
My clothes fit better, my belt is down 3 holes, and I don't wake up with back pain anymore. The plan is working for the Lap-Band , and I'm encouraged, MORE than encouraged. And adding to THAT are the stories and pictures I see on this site.
I'm going to do it this time. For me. For my baby. For my future.
