Sleeve is done!

Mar 31, 2009

I had a my sleeve done on Tuesday, March 24th.  I hung in the hospital until Thursday and was headed home that Evening.  The Three hour drive home was a bite!  Settled in with some Pain killers and slept fairly well.

Now a week out from surgery I'm feeling well and I am down 12 lbs.  It been difficult to get the proteins in, Water I do okay with but am full from it.  I am fighting a bit of head hunger but it's all controlable.  The goal holds before me.

I will return to work on Monday April 6th as tolerated.  I feel good and am ready for routine to return.

WOOHOO!!

New Date for Revision to VGS

Mar 01, 2009

A surgery date was received after approval from the insurance.  March 24th is the date.  I am excited to be back on the loser's bench.  I am still considering a total bypass but I think I'll stick with the sleeve.  One more discussion to be had with the surgeon next week before a decision is made.

End of my lapband experience

Sep 20, 2008

Went to the hospital on Wednesday (11 months to the day of my lapband insertion)  for a flipped port fix,  After chatting with the doc in preop, she didn't like my blood counts or the location of the pain,  So chose to do a scope prior to fixing, well my band had eroded and I came out of surgury band free.....  In pain and feeling sad.....

Now I am pondering my options, (doc says she will not consider anything for 6 months as the stomach needs time to heal.  So I will try to keep my head in the game and deal with the hungries and they occur and research my options, and rely on support from some awesome families and friends.

To anyone who reads this, I absolutely would do this again, if I had the chance,  I was part of the unlucky 1 or 2 % of erosion, and I had the newer APS 10 CC band with only 5.5 CC in it.  So my chances were slim and If I can I'd have it replaced again!  insurance and docs will dictate that!!

If I can manage the hungries, I'd be ready to  move on to stage two and get the tummy tuck done and I would be very content at my weight and size.  I never did this to become skinny minny, only healthy me.....

Well I feel I'm at a healthy stage......  wish me luck!!  Good luck to all and I thank you all for your support!

flipped port

Aug 16, 2008

Back to the doc I went yesterday hoping for another fill to put me back on track,  I am so very close to refinding that sweet spot.  Well, It was confirmed by the floro that my port is flipped completely upside down.

I know this happened the last day of our vacation, had me in some real pain for several days.  So now we'll await approval by the insurance to repair this flip.

Weight wise, I continue to sit here and not gain or lose anything really significant.  up 2 down 2, ect.

Over all, I am still ahead of the game but very frustrating to lose all that weight in 4 months and now I sit her and not lose anything more for 4 more months.  sigh.  But I'll hang in there.

My journey!

Gosh time has flown, I can't beleive it' s been since December that I gave an update.  I have had a slow go of it since the first of the year.  I went to the doc the first week of February expecting to get my second fill, but That time of the month had came and went and closed my band up, I talked them out of an unfill as I was sure my body would give and I'd be too loose then.  That never happened, I suffered for 2 more weeks and continues to be too tight.  I got a partial untill of .6cc and instant releif.  I never lost any weight while I was too tight, although I couldn't eat nor get much down in the way of liquids.  After the unfill on Friday I lost 7 lbs over the weekend.  Strange how this band thing works. I also had the early arrival of that time of the month so that may explain why I never lossened back up.  I'm back on track and down 62 lbs in just over 4 months after surgery, so I'm happy with my success.

12-1-07

Gosh it has been a month since my last update!  It's been a rough month in my personal life, but all in all I haven't done too bad even with all the stress.

I gained a couple of pounds to my dismay, It was that time of the month and that is the only thing I can attribute it too, because it sure wasn't from eating.  I've had some good restriction but Its much less than it was and I am missing that.  I continue to loose and when I average it out since surgery  (6 weeks)  it comes out to 3 lbs a week.  Not too shabby.  I have a fill appt scheduled for Monday cause I wanted to be on the schedule in case I needed one, cause they only do them once a month. So the next one wouldn't be til January.  I am going to go to the appt, just because I'm 3 hours and already have the day scheduled off work.  I would like to have their input, Medically wise, I pretty much feel out on my own.  My port has been aching this week, not sure what that is about, just annoying not painful reallly.

Somedays I eat more than I should, others I'm lucky to get much down.  I still haven't figured out those trigger items, and it seems as if they change.   Darn fickle thing!

I did try a sip of Hubby's Dt. Coke, my old best friend and was appaulled by the taste of it.  So I know I won't be going back there, my new friend is Crystal light Peach Tea.  I did have a beer with a friend the other night, I didn't initially order one, but rather took a sip of hers.  It was during a girls night out at Chili's I ended up ordering my own and sipping during supper, Shame on me for 2 reasons!! Beer and drinking during supper.  I haven't seen her in a while so that was my splurge, and I still ended up taking some weight off that week, we did split an entree, or rather, she had an entree and gave me a chicken strip and a few fries that didn't agree with me at all.
Well that's my update for now, A total of 35 lbs gone since my liquid diet stage.  What a difference.  People are noticing!  I enjoy the new way my old clothes fit but the baggy pants have to go soon!.

10-31-07

I had my first post op appt, on Monday that lasted maybe 10 minutes.......  Gosh I drove 3 hours to get there!!  But I got a good bill of health and was told to progress on to mushies and soft stuff.  I'm scared and still so tight that even water goes down tough yet......  I can't take a normal sized sip.  The doctor said I have 10CC APS band, she indicated she filled it during surgery and is happy that I had such a rough time as she says historically it means that I will have more success as I'm closer to that sweet spot immediatly.  Guess that makes sense!  I did try some mashed potatoes and gravy and made it very runny.....  man, it tasted grand, but I guess I had a spoon or two too much, so I got to experience my first PB.  YIKES!  So I've been back on liquids for yesterday and most of today......I tried some soup tonight.....  still is a slow go!  Good news is!! I've lost 28 lbs.....  10 before surgery...  My pants are looser in the hips!!  wow!!

I'm just so confused as what to eat or try.....  I'm not having the normal bandster post op......  cause I just can't eat anything, let alone drink alot!  I can't believe 14 days from surgery....and I'm not hungry!!  I've never been NOT hungry!!  I have to say I am fighting some head hunger, cause I do wanna eat and try stuff.......  but I know I'll be sick........and damn, that hurts!!

Thank you to everyone for all your support!!!!

10-22-07

It's been a bit rough since I've gotten home.  I know the gas was to hit, and it did.  Constant burping with a throat revenge that hurts!  I have a very difficult time getting any water down, let alone the protein drinks.  .  My nose is much more sensitive now.  Last night I had a horrible night with the worse reflux type pain.  Something just had to give.  I called the Doc and they were amazed they hadn't sent me home with an RX for reflux??  So off to get some OTC drugs..  Wow, within 15 minutes, I had some releif.  So at least the water and some warm broth went down in a better way.  I'll continue to sip and let healing take its path.

I truely am amazed that I am not hungry.  You know in all my life, I've never felt this!!  wow!!  I have had a few head  hungry moments, that have said.....  wow, wouldn't that just be wonderful right now.  But in the shape  my band and belly is in right now, I'd be regretting anything!!  At this moment, my sips are approx a teaspoon big, if that.  Anything bigger, like when I attempt to swollow a pill, I get a stuck sliming issues that takes 10 minutes or so to releive.  Good news is.....  I'm down 10 lbs since surgery, 21 total.  Now I know that most of the weight lost since surgery is water weight, cause I know I'm on the verge of dehydration.  I'm sipping though and working on it!.

10-18-07

I am home from Surgery, and am now in
Bandlandia on the losers bench!

I apparently had a heital Hernia so they fixed that while there were in there. (so luckily I won't have to have surgery again!).  I have very little belly pain, just some back issues.  I am so glad to get out of the hospital!  Staff were wonderful but those bed.......  ouch!. I get to keep the liquid diet for another 2 weeks, til I go back to the doc for followup.  It's nap time now!  More later.
10-15-07

Monday is here, and surgery is just 2 days away.  This liquid diet is killing me, I am glad to be going back to work so that I am away from home and the kitchen.  I was naughty and had a small handful of dry roasted peanuts last night.  I just needed some protein.  I did pop on the scale this AM and mine says I am down a few pounds, so glad this is working at least!  Tomorrow will be all clear liquids I am sure that will be a tough day too but it is all for a good cause.  I do morn the loss of food my friend already and sad that I won't be able to eat like I have before.  Now why would I morn that?  Jeez, I can still eat.  I am playing mind games with myself and doing alot of self talk.

10-04-07

Today was pre-op and physical day.  Just a long day with poking and proding and lots of questions.  All went fairly well except for a brief time with Anethesialogy who thought I had a Heart murmer. On to surgery on the 17th!  I haven't lost enough weight to make them happy yet so I will be on liquids 5 days before surgery.

9-21-07

A letter came in the mail today!  It schedules me for the 10-4-07 preop and history/physical day!  I will have upper gi/labs, xrays, dietician, and visit with doc that day.  Full day of fun!  I'm having some anxiety about it all, and have decided I needed to find a counselor to get my through all of this and the other stuff in my life.  Surgery is confirmed for the 17th unless, they find something wrong on the 4th!

9-1-07

Well the sleep study came back and said I did have apnea??  WTF??  So I had to go back and have another one, which I had on Wednesday last week, so they could adjust my cpap to the appropriate pressure.  Now hopefully my hurdles are over.  !!  I'm praying!!

8-9-07

SURGERY IS SCHEDULED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   YAHOO!!

The surgeons office returned my call today.  We have tenatively scheduled the surgery for October 17th.
Tenative depending on the specifics in the report.  But at least a goal date!   Bring it on!!.

8-8-07 Sleep Study!
Sleep Study was last night, the last hurdle to getting my surgery scheduled!  I PASSED!!!  I am so excited!!  It will take 2 weeks for the report to come back and be sent to the doctor, but I put a call in asking for it to be scheduled before the results are physically recieved.  I'm awaiting a call back!

I'm not sure they'll go for it....but It was worth a try!.

7-30-07 First Pre-Op Visit

Had my first Pre op visit today,  Seen the Nurse coordinator and the PA.  Had my questions answered.  Was told to have blood work completed to check sugar levels (which I did at the hospital before I left) and get a sleep study done.  I've scheduled the sleep study for Next Tuesday.  Blood came back fine, So now if the sleep study is good and I don't have sleep apnea, I will be able to schedule surgery!!!!  YIPPEE!!!!  (hopefully it's just snoring and not apnea, treatment for that will set me back another 6 weeks).
