GERD after gastric sleeve?

Hello! 

So, I am considering a gastric sleeve to get my weight under control with a low BMI of about 31-32. I struggle every day to maintain my weight where it is and obesity runs in my family. I’m afraid that as I have more children, my weight will spiral out of control. My job in the armed services requires me to stay under a certain weight, so I believe this procedure will save my career. My number one choice of doctor is across the border from San Antonio, I don’t want to say his name in case his people search this site for posts. Anyway, I have high blood pressure. I do not have GERD and I only get heartburn occasionally. In your experience, does getting a gastric sleeve cause you to have GERD? I don’t want to regret my decision and swap one ailment for another. I do not want to be on medications for heartburn such as PPIs or even constant OTC medication. What is your experience? Is it worth it?
