So far I have gotten my cardiac clearance and have appointment Tuesday to see the pulmunary Doctor for my pulmunary clearance. I have to get a IVC filter put in sometime before surgery. Things are looking good. Yeah.

I just received the phone call that I have been accepted to have the duodenal switch done. Now must wait for my primary care doctor to get his information to U of C and insurance approval. Yeah!!! I am so excited. I am going to be healthier soon.
I went to 2 other surgeons before Dr. Alverdy. I was crushed because they considered me to be too high risk to perform surgery. Now, I am soooo grateful that they felt that way. I had not heard of the deodenal switch and am so glad I found out about it before having the surgery. Btw, Dr. Alverdy says that I am high risk, but not the highest. Thank you Dr. Alverdy. I have copd (chronic obstructive pulmunary disease) and am on oxygen. I am hoping to be able to get off the oxygen altogether after the surgery.

I just had my evaluation with my surgeon (Dr Alverdy from The University of Chicago) and his team. All indications are that it will be a go. I am waiting now for formal approval from his team. Then I will have to have what testing he wants done before and insurance approval. Wish me luck.
