Nearly 4 Years Post-Op: a Reflection

Apr 26, 2009

I just received my first friend request on OH, Nicole.  I am honored.  I know that there is are LOTS of people who share my weight loss surgery approach, as well as those who are considering surgery.  I'm trying to remember my pre-op state of mind and it is a difficult recollection.  My transformation has been phenomenal and I don't regret any decision I have made.  That is quite a revelation for me to make.  Even the bad decisions have offered learning opportunities and I am stronger for the experience.

My new OH friend is quite young, married with young children and parents who are a part of her life.  My experience is quite different yet I can relate to her feelings.  I want to encourage her to stay the course, don't give up.  Improving your self esteem and self care will translate as a positive into all of your relationships; children, spouse, friends and family.  Your journey is just beginning and it is much too early to declare defeat.   Stay the course.  I wish that I had had the foresight to improve my life at an earlier age.  You have so much ahead of you and being healthier will create an even more positive experience.

What a small world we live in.  I look forward to my first OH gathering in Chicago in June.  It will be wonderful to meet others who have made the same life saving commitment to change.  MLR
