Could always be worse...

May 05, 2013

I had surgery on 2/20 and I had several complications afterwards. When I came home from the hospital I was treated for strep throat and ended up back in the hospital and then was released, re admitted for dehydration,  and diagnosed with c diff. I was in and out of the hospital 5 times. 3 of those times I was in the hospital for a week at a time. I ended up being on four different nausea medications and couldn't eat or drink enough to keep me going. I ended up on a feeding tube for 5 weeks! I just got the tube about a week and a half ago. I am slowly getting better day by day. It was a rough start for sure and I wish I could say I didn't regret the surgery. Someday I'm sure I'll "get over it" and be grateful for the decision I made, but for right now I'm just adjusting. I'm blessed to have the friends and co workers I do, and I have to say I have no idea where I'd be today without them. I was probably one of the most "bubbly" people you'd ever meet before surgery, and now I'm on an anti-depressant that still doesn't make me feel like "myself".  So just taking it one day at a time.... I'm sure I'll "get over it" eventually.... But I'll never forget what I went through.   Anyways... My point is IT COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE! If you are having a hard time after surgery remember that even though its pure hell.....be grateful your still here.

Tomorrow is the big day!

Feb 19, 2013

Woah... I don't really think it hit me until I wrote the title of this blog "Tomorrow is the Big Day". If you would of asked me last week I would of told you the day will NEVER get here. I am excited, nervous, hopeful, and my mind is in the stage of "I hope I'm making the right decision". Truth is, I can't wait to get it over with! I'm ready to start my new life with my sleeve. I am ready to be "normal" whatever that may be.... Most importantly I'm SO ready to be healthy!!! I've been lucky to have such an amazing support system. I honestly don't think I would have made it this far in the process without my loving friends and family. So, thank you all! Well... Now I must go finish packing. Next time I blog surgery will over! HELLO SLEEVE :) love you all!

6 more days!!!

Feb 14, 2013

You heard me! 6 more days until my I'm officially sleeved!! I went for all of my pre operative testing today, and I'm happy to report that all went well. I'm grateful that my mom was able to come with me. She now understands everything a little better :) I'm also happy to report that I've told most of my family (the ones I talk to on a regular basis) that I'm going to have WLS, and everyone has been surprisingly supportive. I am feeling very blessed today! I received my pre op poop drink "pineapple" flavor. I just CANT WAIT to try that delicious stuff! I've lost 14 pounds doing the protein shake diet before surgery. I'm not really sure what the average is, but I guess I'll take that. Also, I met this really wonderful lady at GNC who helped me find a protein drink that is more tolerable than others. I was EXTREMELY excited when I noticed you could sample these right in the store (what a great idea)!! I'm just getting ready to make a list of things I need to pick up before surgery. Vitamins and gas x are at the top!

Any recommendations on what I should get? What are you glad that you got for after surgery?!

Pre op appointment tomorrow :) Happy V-Day to me!

Feb 13, 2013

I am exactly one week away from being sleeved!! I can't believe it's almost that time. I'm nervous, excited, indifferent.... Idk what to feel. My mom is going with me, which I'm extremely grateful for. Tomorrow is my pre op testing day so after that everything will definitely feel even more "real". I appreciate all the feedback and advice from everyone thus far. Thank you,

Nighty night!

Suck it up!

Feb 11, 2013

So as many of you may already know I have not been having great luck with protein shakes. I've found a few that are "okay" but in general not a big fan to any. So....I've decided to suck it up! I am going to drink my chocolate peanut butter whey protein powder drink, and I'm going to like it! (Well you get the point....) it's only 6oz of water and a scoop of the powder and that give me 26grams of protein in just one drink. It's also only 140 calories so that's a plus too. I've actually felt better today than I have since I started this liquid diet. I am still tired (which makes sense), but overall I'm doing okay. Being at work it actually helping a lot to keep my mind of of things and the people I work with are beyond supportive. Anyways...my point being is that I want this bad enough and like it or not ill do what it takes to get there.        Thank you to everyone for all of the feedback you've given me thus far :)

Ready, Set, GO!

Feb 08, 2013

Hello everyone :) my name is Miranda and I am from the lovely state of Ohio.

In September 2012 I decided to make the most important decisions of my life, and that decisions is to have weight loss surgery.I have been heavy set my entire life and I can not wait to be healthy for once! I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and extremely high blood pressure. I also have a pretty strong history of heart disease that runs in my family. Those are just a few of the reasons why I want to have weight loss surgery. I started this whole process in September 2012. I went to a group seminar in September and then started going to all the necessary appointments there after. The surgery that my surgeon and I have chose is VSG. I am very excited, but obviously very nervous, anxious, and a little scared. I am now on day 4 of my 2 week pre op diet and I'm finding it a little difficult. I am NOT and never have been a milk drinker. As I started this 2 week all liquid and protein diet I bought glycerna hunger smart shakes, carnation breakfast (sugar free), isopure, slim fast (milk chocolate and strawberry), Special K (chocolate), and whey protein powder mix. All of these protein shakes are a "milky substance" or " milk based" protein drinks, except for the Isopure. I wish I could say good things about the isopure, but the truth is, it's actually pretty awful. I know everybody's taste buds are different so please don't let that comment talk you out of trying it. I am now looking for something different to drink. Something that I can actually tolerate. If anyone has  any suggestions I am more than open to them.

My surgery is scheduled for February 20th .... That's 11 days away!!!! O my goodness....

If anyone has any comments or suggestions on the pre op 2 week diet PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share. I will basically drink this stuff because I have to, but if there is something out there that is a little more tolerable I would be more than happy to try it.

Best of luck to all of you who are undergoing or have already undergone WLS. I can't wait to sit with all of you on the losers bench :)
