This post is for the guys who are thining about having surgery

Nov 02, 2009

OK, so it has been 14 months since my bypass.  WOW, you have no idea how it changes your life, things that you can not image prior to surgery.  For me, with effort, I have gone from 360 down to 179, and it really has been the best result I could of dreamed of.  My divorce is final over(not due to surgery) I have traded in the old lazy wife for a young beautiful pattie vixen.  I'm not saying it is the best part, but it is nice.  i have incredable energy, and enjoy running around with my toddler.  I have been lucky, must be my genes, but my skin has come back pretty good.  To the point that I don't mind taking my shirt off at the pool or beach.

10 months out

Jun 14, 2009

In case you were wondering, this was the best thing I ever did.  I have lost 162 pounds, that is crazy.  Life is great.  I am in the middle of divorce, feeling great, and finishing my college degree.  I have had no complications, never been sick, just a little of discomfort if I eat something rich or too much.  I have no real bad skin issues.  Yeah, there is a little loose skin, but not bad, and 100 times better then being 360 pounds.

4 Months Post Op

Jan 04, 2009

Things are great.  As of today I am down 108 LBS from my all time high, and 74 LBS since surgery.  I feel good, have
more energy, and my knees and back don't bother me as much.  I have yet to throw up anything since surgery, though I have
gotten a little sick a few times due to bad eating choices.  I can really eat everything, but have to keep an eye on sugar and fat
amounts.  I ate 2 christmas cookies that I made with my son, That got me a little ill feeling, I would assume it was mild dumping.
All my old clothes look way too big for me and I am fitting into some very old clothes I had stored in the garage.

6 weeks post op

The last time I saw my weight on a scale that started with a 2 was back when Clinton was in office.  Today, 6 weeks after surgery, I saw 298.4 on the scale.  What a great feeling.  With my powerfull sense of deductive reasoning, I have now found the cause of my weight struggle..... The republicans caused my weight problem.  :)

Back in January, I could not weigh myself on a home scale, and the one at my PCP office only went up to 350, and I tipped it, so I had to be around 360 then.  On day of surgery, I was 326.  Today is a great milestone in my journey and I will never again step on a scale and see a number that starts in a 3.  To date, I have had no complications and no getting sick.  I did hit a stall 2 weeks ago where I stayed between 303 and 305, but I was weighing myself everyday.  I know, big mistake.  Last sunday was my last weigh in and it was 303.  I now will only weigh myself on Sundays.  :)

5 Days Out...

Aug 31, 2008

Everything seems to be going well.  I am getting close to my water requirement and protein in.  I'm feeling good, no real pain, just sore stomach muscles from the surgery.  The surgeon removed my drain on Friday and that was the weirdest feeling ever, but felt much better then after.  I am drinking some good protein shakes and eating soup.  Though I feel like I can take in more then the 4 ounce limit, I am not hungry at all.  I have lost 11 pounds since surgery, which was only 5 days ago.  I am eating yogart and using non fat milk in my protein shakes, so I guess I have no problems with lactose / dairy.  OK, it true "Jay" fashion, I was smoking right up to the day of surgery.  I did not smoke the morning of surgery, and was in the hospital for 1 night, then at my moms for 2 nights.  When I got home on saturday, I went straight for the hidden cigs I left and went outside to sneek a smoke.  The strangest thing happened.... it tasted like crap... I hated it.  I only took 3 puffs and put it out.  So, it would seem that my first change of taste is for tabacco.  I am soooo happy.  I am now, finally, after 20 years, A NON SMOKER!!!!!!!!

Home from the hospital...

Aug 28, 2008

I made it.  The surgery was done on Wednesday and I am already home, well, actually, I'm at my mom's place recovering.  Surgery went well, but the hospital staff sucked.  Will write more about it later.

The day before my surgery and new life.

Aug 25, 2008

Today is the day before my surgery.  I took off from work to get prepared and to spend some time with my son Charlie.  I will be going to the surgeons office today for a final weigh in, so they can see how much I lost on the 2 week liquid diet.  Tomorrow, I have to be at the hospital by 8am and was told that if all goes well I will be home by thursday night in time for college football.  Over the past few days I have had many thoughts and doubts and concerns, but I also know that I have to change my life for the better so that I can be the best me and best daddy that I can be.  I am very thankfull for all the information I have gathered here on this forum from everyone that has taken this path before me.  Wish me luck.

After 2 denials and an appeal, I AM FINALLY APPROVED!!!!!

Jul 14, 2008

Today I recieved a letter from the appeals division of BCBS saying that they have overturned my denial for Lap RNY.  This has been a long fight with BCBS, but it just reminds beind persistant pays off.  Sugery should be done end of August, will update soon.

DENIED

Apr 30, 2008

The day before my scheduled surgery, BCBS denied the claim.  SO now I start a fight with them that I will not give up at.  They don't know who they are messing with this time.  I wonder if they would like for me to visit my PCP 3 times a week at $250 a pop?

Pre-op liquid diet...

Apr 18, 2008

How can my surgeon really expect me to live on just five 8oz protein shakes a day.  I work at a culinary college.  Every day, all day, the halls are filled with smells of food cooking.  The students always stop by to offer me a taste or a plate of their newest creations.  I'm really trying, but it is sooooo hard.  Only 10 days lef t of this liquid diet.
