checking in - 6 days post op

Nov 24, 2009

I feel very lucky and blessed to have had this surgery.  When I got to my room after it, I was pretty out of it for a while.  I slept a lot, but of course they kept waking me to breath and push my pain med PCA thing.  After just a couple hours, I was up walking.  I really felt good the whole time in the hospital.  I was able to handle the clear liquids okay (except the jello...TOO SWEET!) and was up just about every hour to hour and a half to walk.  By my second day other patients were yelling out of their rooms to "slow down...isn't there a speed limit in the halls?"...LOL.  I only had 2 bouts with nausea and with a little medication, it subsided.  I went home Friday feeling pretty good and ready to recover at my house.  I'll tell you though, the worst thing thus far about the surgery was getting the JP drain removed...it just took my breath away...I know...I'm a big baby

So now I've been doing GREAT since getting home.  I've been on full liquids since Saturday and have pretty much made it to my protein and fluid goals each day!  I've been doing a lot of sipping, as instructed, and really only 1 of my shakes gave me some concern/discomfort...I think I'll wait a little while before using Greek Yogurt in my protein shake again... Other than that, I'm walking A LOT, and still doing breathing exercises (because they make me feel good), and of course, tooting .  I hope I don't jinx anything because I'm talking about how good it's been...but I feel good because I'm making good decisions, following all my post-op doctors orders, and just allowing my body to heal.

Sorry this is a long post...but I just wanted to let you all know how it's been going.  I'll try to catch up on all the other posts soon, but I think it's time for another walk .  Thank you all again, and I'M SO HAPPY to have joined you on the losers bench
