I am a 40 year old dad of the most fabulous three year old little girl you could imagine.  It is my daughter that was my primary motivation for deciding to have surgery.  My inability to play with her, and soon not be able to keep up with her, was killing me.  There are other reasons too.  I am an avid cyclist and skier, and have all but stopped these activities because of my weight.  At points in my life I was able to lose a tremendous amount of weight, getting down to a little over 200 pounds at one point.  That's when I discovered cycling.  But as I got older, got married, and had our daughter, the weight crept back on.  I also injured my back during this period, which made riding and exercising almost impossible.

I have been heavy my whole life.  I don't think I have weighed less than 200 pounds since junior high school.  My decision to have surgery was initially met with some skepticism by my family, but once I explained my reasons, and showed everyone what I was going to be going through, pretty much everyone was on board.  I originally was going to do the Lap Band, and my mother was not happy that I changed my mind to have the RNY, feeling that the Lap was a less invasive option.  But I knew what my shortcomings are regarding eating, and felt that the RNY was the better choice for me.

I am looking forward to getting back down to 200 pounds.  I topped out at 301 a couple weeks before Thanksgiving of 2008, about the heaviest I have ever been.  I hope my spring time to be down to at lest 225, and lose the rest over the summer.
