Waiting List...

Jul 31, 2017

The Nova Scotia waiting list for a gastric sleeve surgery (the only Bariatric Surgery covered in this province) CONSULTATION is now at 8 years post-referral.  They're now seeing patients referred in 2009.

People are dying while they wait for help...

Nova Scotia Government should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm so frustrated.

I'm luckily still able to move my body fairly well and I am making small changes that will hopefully add up in the long term.  I have so much to fight against it's frustrating:

  • my ability to breathe falls whenever my heart rate elevates (and my heart rate elevates VERY quickly),
  • my post-surgery state (gallbladder was removed on July 10, 2017) means I can't lift/twist/do anything too strenuous for another month,
  • I need to be careful with changes as my auto-immune condition (Chronic Acquired Idiopathic Urticaria/Angioedema/Anaphylaxis) reacts to me sweating and various types of pressure (lifting weights, wearing shoes that have pressure points my feet aren't used to, etc), and
  • I need to be careful because my hypothalamus/pituitary/thyroid are all being investigated right now, along with my elevated platelet count (sustained), low B12, and low iron (anemia) counts.

Hopefully we can get things cleared up soon so I can move forward and forget about being on the list for bariatric surgery.  It's a great tool and resource if you need it (which is why I put myself on the list NOW), but I would love to be able to lose the weight and improve my fitness on my own if at all possible.

We shall see, I guess...
