Good Morning Blog

Sep 10, 2014

Well good morning blog it is 9/10/2014 and I have 43 days before I start my supervised weight loss program, and 13 weeks before the end of the diet program and a big fat I don't know when the hell my surgery will be. I hope to have a date by the end of the diet program due to how long it is and due to the fact that I need to schedule the time off work. This whole process has made me very moody and angry. If I only had $17,000 I would just pay for it and have it next month.

I am worried that I will fail the pre-op diet program, or that I will do all this work and the bariatric surgery team will refuse me the surgery for some reason

Such a Long time

Sep 09, 2014

Well I have sat down a figured out the days and weeks that I will be on the level II supervised diet program. It will be from Oct 23 2014 to January 16th 2015 with a total of 12 weeks at a minimum due to the holiday's . Then there is a 1 month unsupervised diet to see if I can hold up to the diet. All the while I will be monitored on the side by the bariatric surgery team to see how I do, if I miss any classes, if I can maintain losing at least 1/2 to 1 pound per week for the entire 4 months. Some time in there I will have a discussion with the bariatric team at my local VA center  and all my other info and progress will be review by the Jesse Brown bariatric team and they will decided if I I can have the surgery

Well it is official

Sep 09, 2014

well it is official , my primary health insurance does not cover ANY TYPE of bariatric surgery. I just got the word today from the surgeons office. Lucky me!! Well I still have the VA and will have to jump thru there hoops but that is what I was counting on in the first place.

Moving slow now

Sep 08, 2014

Well everything just went into a very slow pace yesterday. First I find out that I have to work a program for 10 to 12 weeks meeting once a week and not miss any days, which I would have to find someone to work for me on 3 or 4  of those days and I did but they want me to take vacation and not do trade time, which is BS. So them I started the process to have it do thru my insurance and not the VA, it has a 6 month supervised diet program. BS again

New LAWS of life

Pre-Operative Care and Evaluation

Veterans identified by their primary care medical providers as potential bariatric surgery candidates will be screened by the bariatric surgeon and other bariatric surgery team members at a VHA or outside facility, per the referral process detailed in the VHA Handbook on Bariatric Surgery. In general, selected patients meet with the surgeon and other bariatric staff (dietitian, psychologist, others), usually more than once, to prepare for surgery. In some VHA facilities, this meeting can be arranged via video teleconferencing. The following table (11-1) describes the role of various team members when preparing a patient for bariatric surgery.

Table 11-1: Roles of Bariatric Surgery Team Members Team Member

Topics Covered

Primary Care Provider

  • Perform initial medical evaluation and determine if patient meets medical criteria for surgery.

• Stabilize chronic underlying conditions.

• Coordinate with pharmacist (see below) to safely change medications to instant release formulations prior to surgery.

• Arrange for patient consultations with other team members.

Surgeon

  • Identify needed preoperative requirements to improve surgical outcomes.
  • Determine if preoperative weight loss is indicated (surgery in patients with very high BMI can be technically more difficult and carry a higher risk of complications).

Moving fast now

Sep 02, 2014

Well things are moving fast now. I call the doctor today and talked with him for about a 1/2 hour about the current start date for the pre-op diet plan that is required and it is like 80 days away before I can start the diet. But after about a hour later he called and said I could start with the diet plan on Monday 9/8/14.
