Just the Way You Are

Well am so excited about this surgery, I feel that I am finally being treated for a life long disease that Drs and some people realize is difficult to treat conservatively. Surgery set for Feb 12 2004. Start wt 249/BMI 44.1 I dont know how to do the picture thing.

Wow I think I got it. Thanks for everyones assist. It is May now and I did not update my profile because I did not know how..I hope this works. Well here it is I had my surgery on Feb 12 2004. Had multiple complications. Respiratory failure, reaction to morphine, post op ileus(bowels werent working well) went home came back in 2 days with temp 104.8, GI bleed, diveticulitis(never had before) and Pulmonary embolisms. Now I am so confused because I have had many surgeries before and never a problem now they tested every part of my body and I have such awful problems. It didnt make sense then but does now.. Well after that hurdle I made it...when I was on clear liquids I had my family go get me the wonton soup broth yummy what flavor great treat. When I was on full liquids I got the zuppa toscana (sausage and potatoe soup) at olive garden I asked them for just the broth, what flavor, yummy. I remember my sense of smell and taste were so heighted that I could not stand near anyone who just ate I could smell it and it made me sick. I could not drink alot of stuff seemed too strong. Went home on Lovenox and coumadin for the PE and referred to a GI doctor to follow up. Went to the GI doctor he told me Colonoscopy a must, He told me I have to go back on the lovenox and stop the coumadin. Oh no more shots. Well have the colonoscopy and they find a large Polyp. My hubby said they told him it was the size of a baseball. It was precancerous, and the doctor said it was one of the most fastest growing cancers. If I did not have the WLS and all the complications I would NEVER have had the colonoscopy I am only 46. Well 45 days on lovenox and one more admit for GI bleed. The polyp began to bleed again. G-D was taking care of me.Well now its May 31 down 50 lbs. Never cheat (Im a coward) loosing weight slowly but loosing. Thats my story and I sticking to it. Happy Memorial day!

5/21/04 Well I met someone I had not seen since before surgery. I am down 53 lbs and she told me I look 15 years younger. That makes me 31...WOW

Well I bought my first set of high heels. I haven't worn them since I was 22. With the Plantar faciatis I had and the weight heels were too hard to wear. I go into the store now and I have choices. I still end up in the womans section( I don't understand why I do this, probably habit). I feel a sense of comfort in the womans section. This is very strange. Very few things fit me there anymore. Very exciting. Still on the coumadin for my Pulmonary Embolisms, plan is another 3 months except for that things are great. Happy July 4th

9/22/04 Well its been a while since I have updated
Ive been off my coumadin for about 3 weeks and I am finally feeling like a normal person again. Haven't lost any more weight I go up and down 1-2 lbs I am at 174.  Since I am off the coumadin I think its safer now.I think I am still losing inches because my clothes are getting looser. No more diabetes and no more high blood pressure. I eat everything I am supposed to and sometimes I find I have to eat a lot to get my 60 gms of protein. I did dump a little last week, mild on raisin bread. I have remained on a low carb diet.  Well with Bilateral Pulmonary embolisms no more hormones for me. Well till next time.

9/29 What a day! Got laid off today. After working at the company for 9 years. They call it reorganization. Well I got a job the same day at a temp agency. No benefits will take one day at a time. Lost 4 lbs this week. What a way to lose it

11/16/04 Well its been a while since I updated. I got a new job and took a trip to New York( my birthplace) it was great. Weight loss is slow. I was able to eat all the foods I loved.I did not have anything with sugar at all. I only ate legal foods. I am so proud of myself I have not had any desire to cheat, I have remained very strict. The weight loss is very slow but Im going in the right direction so I am happy. Total 71 lbs in 9 months. till next time

12/21/04 I was in an auto accident  today I got rear ended while sitting at a red light. I wish people would pay attention.

Well its Valentines Day and Still no weight loss. As a matter of fact I have gained 2 pounds. Taking in 1000-1200 calories and I have reduced my calories down to 700 calories since no weight loss. Im getting in the fluids and the protein. I have 40 pounds to go and it is so hard and this plateau is so stubborn. It has been 4 1/2 months since I've lost weight. I have people tell me that wls is the easy way out and I beg to differ. I am not able to exercise since the accidet because I am in so much pain.

Well it is March 3rd and I am down the two awful pounds I gained. I am very limited in the exercising I can do due to an auto accident right before Xmas. I try to walk  Went to the Obesity Help Arizona event and had a great time. Everyone was wonderful and the only complaint I had was it was very crowded. I wish we had more time to mingle with each other, but it was great. Wonderful inspirational stories. Very touching. Till next time

Well still no weight loss and actually a 5 lb weight gain. I am very down about this. I have not cheated at all. I am walking as much as I can Sent my fitday info to my nutritionist where I got my bypass done. I need to increase my carbs up to 130 and decrease my fat to under 30 and protein to 70. What i can eat carbs!!!!! oh my I had pasta the first time in over 1 year and sushi also OMG OMG OMG. Well we will try this now and see what happens. Till next time, wish me luck

4/11/05 Well no weight loss still as a matter of fact I have gained a total of 7 pounds since September. I am eating 800 calories a day and 25-30 grams of fat. When I saw the PA at Dr Fangs office I got all the rountine mumbo jumbo....Well muscle is heavier than fat altho not a muscle can't be seen on this body. I still have been very strict on my meal plans  Well now we did new lab work to see what's up. I have had my thyroid taken out except for a 1/4 and prior to surgery I was hypothyroid so that may be the culprit. Now I wait. I have an appt with a bariatric internal medicine specialist so I can have a resource to someone who has a good understanding of WLS. Will update soon

Hoorah!!!!! I saw the specialist.( I had to travel 60 miles to see him) I showed him all my Fitday records and my labs and pleaded for some help( I gained another 2 lbs on 800 calories a day )HE SAID "you could be a bit hypothyroid Your levels are borderline but you have all the clinical symptoms" I can't tell you how many years I have been complaining and all I heard was your labs are in the normal range. My labs were on the high normal range. Someone finally looked at the clinical picture. I am so blessed you have no idea. He has me starting on a low dose of thyroid and will gradually increase it. By the way they took out my thyroid 20 years ago so I only had a quarter of it left. I hope this works

5/8/05 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!! No weight loss yet but I feel 100% better. My skin is not as dry and my clothes are fitting me different. I bought size 10 and only wore them for 1 month and started to grow out of them.  So much more energy you have no idea. Life is good. Till next time.

Well the Thyroid seems to be working I lost the weight I gained. Now I am where I was 9 months ago.I am fitting back into my clothes again. This was a 9 month setback, but I am moving on from this point. I wonder why they don't try thyroid with all obese people that have all the other symptoms of hypothyroidism while they are doing their 6 mo supervised diet. Although I am very grateful for the surgery If I was gaining weight post op maybe I may have not needed the surgery if I had been put on thyroid from the begining. Well we will know more after my lab work in July. I feel they should be doing more research on obesity. We are categorized as uncontrolled eaters and that is not always the case.Obesity leads to so many other diseases, we need to push for research for obesity.

Well lab work came back great. I see the doctor next week. I've lost another 2 lbs and I'm feeling great. The thyroid I'm taking has made such an improvement with everything. I am involved in getting the diabetes walk set up. I am still pretty debilitated since the accident. Some days I don't even feel like eating and other days I eat alot ( still stay under 1200 calories though). The quality of food I eat now is different. Life is good.

9/24/05 Well its been a while since I've updated. We went on a cruise for our 25th Anniversary. My goodness people eat so much on cruise ships. I was eating 6 small meals a day.  I came home and lost 2 lbs. I was shocked because the weight loss has been so slow. To lose 2 lbs in one week and I ate more that week than I ever have before. I even treated myself to some sugar free deserts. I even had some drinks. I was drinking bloody marys but I was feeling very deprived, everyone else had the fancy sugar filled drinks and I knew I could not go there so I had them make me a kaluha and double milk over ice. It was tall and looked just like the fancy drinks. I let the ice melt down a bit so I tolerated it well. One drink lasted me all afternoon. and then one lasted me all night. It was delightful. I can tell you I did not have any artificial sweetners for the week and I don't know if that had anything to do with it. The week after I came home I only drank water and ice tea without artificial sweetner an I lost another 2 lbs. I am only drinking water from now on.. I think I'm done with the artificial sweetners till I reach goal. 30 lbs to goal I cant wait

10/1/05 Today we had the Diabetes walk and it was so much fun. I was a volunteer and there was a DJ (Marc)All Access Entertainment 480-699-2636 and he was awesome. If you ever need a DJ you've got to check him out. We all had a great time and the Red mountain volunteers were great. There was even a petting Zoo. If you missed it this year you missed a great time. Keep it in mind for next year. I am slowly losing weight since I have stopped the artificial sweetners. Another 2 lbs this week whoo hoo!!!!

11/6/05 Well life is good I became a great aunt yesterday, and yesterday was my moms birthday. She passed away 2001. I'm doing much better off the artificial sweetners. I've lost 14 lbs since I stopped using them. My hubby bought me a beach cruiser bike so I will try to use that. Till next time.

12/08/05 Well the artifical sweetner thing really makes a difference. I don't feel as bloated as I did. I drink green iced tea most of the time. I will be having surgery 12/12/05 on a rotator cuff tear from an auto accident last December so this will be my fun adventure this holiday season. I cant use the beach cruiser with one arm. I hope it will get better. Happy Holidays all and have a safe and happy holiday season.

Well I know its been a while since I updated the weight is coming off very slow. I have been behaving very well..I have followed my diet plan well. I am on a new kick now baked cheetos. I have a half a serving size. It satisifies me. Nothing else really exciting. Till next time.

3/08  It has been a really long time since I have updated.I am not a computer genius and finally found my old profle to incorporate it into the new one. I finally reached goal. Now I have to stay here. I now have RSD in my right arm due to an auto accident 12/04 so I dont have any use of my right arm any more. this makes exercising impossible. Oh well I need to make the best of it.
