Growing up, I was really a pretty skinny kid. That was until the 6th grade when my dad moved out. That year, I gained 100 pounds. I kept gaining weight as the years went on. By the time I graduated from Nursing School, I weighed 350 pounds. I started looking into gastric bypass surgery and got up the courage to ask my PCP about it in December 2003. With my insurance, I had to go to a hospital about 3 hours south of home. I had an open roux-en-y in July 2004. I lost about 70 pounds, but was plagued with a lot of nausea and pain and had stopped losing weight. Around that time, I began working as an OR Nurse at Barix in Illinois. I started talking to Dr. Boe about my problems and he ran a series of tests. In June 2006, He proceeded to do a revision of my bypass and "fix" everything. I have lost another 80 pounds for a total of 150. I am still working on those last 20 pounds or so and am anxious to finally get rid of all this skin!!
I had abdominoplasty (Dr. Rosenberg in West Dundee, IL) in June 2008 and have lost a total of 170 pounds and feel great!!! I moved to Dallas, Texas in July.
