Providence Portland

"I'm a nurse & I may be partial as I worked at this hospital in the past. 10/2/2002 I have just learned that Providence Hospital is now longer allowing doctors to do RNY surgery at their hospital. I have no idea why. I did already know that the Providence insurance would not cover this surgery for their patients. I assumed that was a money issue, but quite short sighted of them. But the denial of surgery for other insurance coverage or self pay---That seems like they have more than a cost issue with surgery for morbid obesity. "

Luhana Ude

"Her office is now obesity friendly. The location does not have parking other than on the street which could be oveerly far for people with decreased walking ability. To get into her building involves negociating many steps about 1/2 without handrails. This is not good for people seeking bariatric surgery."

Eric Friedman

"Dr. Eric Friedman at Providence Med Center, Portland Or. He is very respectful & has a warn touch. He seems very skillful & careful with his patients. He requires Psych Testing, a Dietition review & pulmonary evaluation prior to surgery. His office receptionist (Kathy) is very helpful & plesant. (He has a great exam table for supersize people.) I am very impressed with him (& I'm an RN so I think I have insight into evaluation of MDs) I want surgical compitence most of all. Dr. Friedman has great associates working with him in making this process safe & in supporting his patients. "

James Kern

"Dr. Kern has been my internist for a few years now. I have found him to be unusually supportine of people with obesity."
