Day 5 - I will survive!

Sep 26, 2009

Had the long-awaited surgery on Monday, 9/21, but had a couple of complications afterward - intolerance to one of the pain meds and bleeding.  That was a surprise.  I never have problems with procedures, but I keep telling myself this surgery will prevent the need for others in the future.  My father had to have several bypass surgeries over the years and my hope is that I have averted the need for those.

As far as the surgery itself, I feel fine, although I'm still not as strong as I'd like to be.  (My hemoglobin isjust up to 9, normal is near 12.)  I'm doing all the things I was told to do - keep hydrated, drink protein drinks, take vitamins, walk, etc.  I'm also trying to keep in touch with the world out there and the dear ones who are part of this journey.  I want to express my gratitude to my family for their support, to all the health care professionals who took very good care of me, and to John, the best friend and nurse a girl could have.

One day at a time.
