Update on my profile

Nov 07, 2006

I am looking forward to living a healthy life again. I would never have thought I would get as big as I am now. I've always been chunky, but could always fit into a size 16 or smaller, now its 22-24, and just to be more comfortable 3x tops. I am so afraid of having a heart attack or stroke right now because of my size. My hobbies are crocheting, and bowling before my knees started bothering me, and yes, I do beleive in miracles!! ****************************************************************
6/29/2001 Drove up to Fresno for my consultation with Dr. Frye, I was very comfortable talking with him, and he took his time answering my questions, I didn't feel rushed at all. Now we get to wait for the insurance to respond. I will be having the RNY lap. hopefully in August if not sooner. Dr. Frye wants or rather insists that you walk 2 miles a day starting right NOW. I have a really bad knee and have a hard time walking my dog as it is, but I really want to feel better and have this surgery, so off to walking 2 miles a day I go!!!I'll do anything to make surgery go better.
*****************************************************************
7/21/2001 I HAVE A SURGERY DATE "AUGUST 29,2001"!!!!

I thought I would hear something sooner than now as my consultation was 6/29/01. So I called Bernie on 7/9/01 to see what my status was and she hadn't received the transcript from Dr. Frye yet, as I beleive he may have been out of town. Bernie must have received the transcript within a few days as I received a call fom her on 7/18/01 that the insurance had ok'd everything. So lesson learned to "have more patience". I really wasn't too concerned about the insurance accepting this claim, I just wanted a date for surgery!! lol. Now I can really start making some plans!! Being able to walk without pain will be soooo nice, and I am really looking forward to having some of this "ENERGY" I keep hearing about!

I want to thank a very special lady "Raven", was such a big help in my decision to have this surgery done. She met with me here in Bakersfield and showed before picteres, her scar, and talked about her journey with WLS and she has done fantastic. Way to go girl!!! Thankyou very much!!

Wow it doesen't seem like it has been that many days since I last posted. I went up to Fresno for my pre-op visit with Dr. Frye, he answered all the questions that I could remember(left my list in the pickup) I was pretty upset as I had gained about 3 lbs. you would think with all this walking, but than I must be honest, I have had more cokes than usual and some other what do you call it "last dinner, meal, goodies. GUILTY!!!

That same evening I went to the mandatory pre-op class. That was very helpful and am so glad they have this class. Also tried on the "ANGEL WINGS" for Lorie Beaumont whom I met on WLS site. It just so happened that she had her surgery on the 13th so we got to meet each other. Of course we visited more the day after her surgery. She is home now and doing well.
I'm going to be an angel again, this time it will be for Vickie Smith from Rocksprings,Wyo. We have been best friends since 7th grade. We were talking on the phone on her birthday and I decided to tell her what my plans were for WLS and she kinda chuckled, I asked what? She said we have always been on the same wave length, as she had already sent her paper work in. lol She has her surgery on the 27th of August in Salt Lake City, Utah and mine is on the 29th of August in Fresno Ca.!! So I'll post for her right after her surgery. Good Luck Vickie~~~~

*****************************************************************

8/21/2001 I am trying to get it posted on my surgery page that Lorie Beaumont will be my angel, hope this works

I have lost 54 pounds of fat at my 3 month checkup!!!! Who woulda thunk the fat would melt off like this. It still isn't the easy way out though. I have never had to concentrate so hard at what type of foods go into my body, and how much water to get in. Protein, water and walking 2 miles a day are so very important and making sure to take your vitamins. I have no regrets for having this surgery,I have followed my doctors rules to the tee and I'm sure that is the biggest reason I haven't had any real complications and of course asking God to watch over me has helped big time!!

3/6/02
Wow! I went in for my 7 month checkup and my labs were good and I have officially lost 83 1/2 pounds!!!! I feel so great, my health is sooo much better. I can breathe without gasping for air, I can tie my own shoes, bend over and put the leash on the dog, I have so much more energy. I didn't go into this for vanity at all, just wanted to have a normal life and boy this feels great!! I am starting to have chaffing on my stomach (apron) and getting yeast infection in my belly button. Pretty grosse smell especially after I have been exercising and walking. Hopefully I can get this skin to tighten up with more exercising.
*******************************
9/4/02
DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!!!! My one year checkup I have lost 112.49 POUNDS!!! wHAT A DIFFERENCE MY LIFE IS NOW!!!! My health is great. I stayed in Fresno for the "Tempus" 5k walk on Saturday, this was my first group walk and it was fun. We had tshirts made up fro the walk and Dr. Betcher & Dr. Fast and evelyn N.P. were all there and walked with us. This is one of many walks I plan to do.
Went to the water slides in Redding Ca. with a bunch that were in their early to mid 30's, when we got to the top of the ramps they were all breathing heavy, out of breath and I wasn't winded at all!! tee-hee!! I just love being healthy!!! Make sure to always eat protein first, than veggies, and a carb, take your vitamins and drink at least 64 oz. of water a day. Yezzzzz, and walk at least 2 miles a day.

I really wish we lived closer to Fresno so, I could attend the support group meetings. I think it is very important to attend when you can as there is always something new to learn from everybody. I am very jealous of those that get to go, but I know a few of you will keep me posted....... right??? Merry Christmas and hope everybody stays away from the sugery foods as it is no fun dumping!! Had my 15 month checkup, everything went great on the 4th of Dec. I have lost 117 pounds now!!!! I think that it is time for my weight to become stable now. :)
***********************
I don't know what happened to my 2003 posts, but for some reason they have disappeared, have read where others have lost all their posts. I will definately need to back this up every now and than.
**********************
One thing I do remember for sure in 2003 is that Dr. Frye asked me to write a short story about my weight loss journey and it was published in the Fall issue of the "TEMPUS SUPPORT GROUP NEWSLETTER". I was quite honored about him asking me to do this and he also has my before/after photos on a poster board for his seminars, along with other succesful patients. So I guess you could say I am a poster child!! (at heart) tee-hee

Had to drive to Fresno by myself as hubby had to work. Living in Sacramento Ca. now so it wasn't too far of a drive. I spent the night and went to the support group meeting. Gosh it was so nice to see so many happy faces and listening to so many great success stories. I think Dr. Frye has a great after care program, he is usually at the meetings along with Evelyn N.P., and Linda is our group leader Tori helps out alot also. And Betty is the one that keeps everybody posting on the internet support site for TEMPUS, Thankyou Betty for all you do.
My weight loss is at 109.50 pounds. I feel pretty good at this weight. My lab work is good. Only problem I'm having is excess skin mainly on my stomach and tops of my legs. I really thought by now that it would have tightened up , with all the walking and exercising I do, but guess not. I have talked to Dr. Frye about possibly checking into reconstructive surgery with a plastic surgeon as I have been having horrible hygeine problems with yeast infections in my belly button and under my jelly belly (apron). It starts out as a rash and goes into smelling very badly. I guess I sweat alot when I'm exercising and this gets trapped under my folds. Kinda look like one of those wrinkle dogs, but dogs don't sweat, lol! I am so sick of the smell and always having to put ointment on and of course this is really a big turn off for my hubby. So planning on researching for a good plastic surgeon in Sacramento area.

We have moved up to Truckee Ca. It is beautiful up here and lots of trails to go walking. But it is alot further from Fresno, I don't like being so far from my doctor and all my friends at Tempus. Going to have to put off my research for skin removal til we get moved back into a larger city. They have a hospital here but think it is mostly used for skieres.
*******************************************
Have met a very interesting lady from Michigan, her name is Stella. She likes to walk so we get together practically every day. She is an artist and does some beautiful paintings. She has alot of knowledge about herbs, flowers and is full of interesting craft ideas.
It is so nice to meet such interesting people.

We went into Sparks for the 4th of July at the Nugget, wow what a day that was! I wore shorts, not the shorty ones of course as my skin on the top of my legs hangs down. I guess you can call these walking shorts, almost to the knee. Saw a few of my realatives I hadn't seen in a few years, they were so suprised to see how much weight I had dropped. They were amazed at how healthy I was also!!! And the neat thing is I didn't have to sit down every 15 minutes to take a rest like I used to do at these kind of functions. If you ever get a chance to be in Sparks for 4th of July you'll love it, so many things to see and do.
***********************************************

Well I had a little set back with my knee. Before I lost my weight I couldn't hardly walk at all. I had knee surgery in 1998 and the Dr. told me I had blown my knee completely and that I would need to have a knee replacement and to take the weight off. Of course taking the weight off has helped a lot, but I still need to have the knee replace but they suggest waiting til I'm 60 years old as they only last 10 years. Well, I'm only 49 so I have awhile to go. Anyways I have been in horrible, horrible pain for 2 weeks and hubby took me to the hospital and they did a ultrasound and found I had a bakers cyst that had ruptured and drained into the calf of my leg. It hurt like a throbbing tooth ache. They ended up giving me pain pills and went into an Ortho doctor the next day and he gave me a cortizone shot, WOW! wish I had done that sooner, what a relief!!! So now I can get back to my walking in a day or so.

10/30/04
I waited a couple of month's for my 3 year checkup as I had signed up for the 5k Susan Komen race for the cure walk, so I thought I may as well kill two birds with one stone. I ended up taking a train to Fresno as it had snowed in the mountains and Donner pass can get pretty bad. Went for my appointment on 10/25/04
My doctor visit went very well. I have gained a few pounds but actually feel better at this weight. Officially I have lost 104. I need to continue drinking more water and if I have any problems what so ever I am to call them. I am still having problems with my apron rashes, yeast infections and the fowl smell, it gets worse in the summer months. Dr. Frye and Evelyn both said if I'm going to have surgery to remove the excess skin to be sure and double up on my protein intake and that it would be best to have the surgery in the winter time as you have to wear binders and it would be very uncomfortable and hot in the summer months. We'll see what happens and where we move to next. Construction work can be interesting and educational, but it can be a pain in the butt when you need to see doctors.
I really enjoyed walking with our group but things got mixed up a little as we ended up following the wrong group which were only walking 1 mile, so we had to go thru the course and and walk the 5k so I guess we actually got some extra walking in.I plan on walking in the Junior diabetes 5k walk in Reno next. It feels so good to be able to participate in these walks and it is for a good cause also.
******************************************
My computer took a big crash, so I don't have anything documented for a long time, sorry and I thought I was doing so good with getting things written down.
**********************************************
We moved back to Sacramento in November and hubby only worked 2 weeks and got laid off, so we pulled our fith wheel to Oroville Ca. and was planning on driving up to Oregon for the holidays. But..... my husband got called out of the hall to go to work in Reno, NV. so we moved to Reno on the 17th of December. I am pretty disappointed as we won't be able to be with our son for Christmas, but at least we do have a few relatives in this area. I get so tired of moving sometimes.
1/9/05
Happy New Year!! Wow, Reno has had sooo much snow and they are not equipped with snow removal like Truckee is. This place is a mess, and you have to go to the mall to do your walking or to a casino.

Time sure does fly by fast. We've been busy going to eye doctor, dentist and had hubby in for a complete physical. He has also been seeing a chiropractor for his back, poor guy has really been going thru alot of pain and misery but he is trying to do everything he can to not have to have back surgery. I wish I could take some of his pain away. He has only taken 2 days off thru out all of this because they gave him a epideryl in his back.

8/26/2005 HAPPY 4th ANNIVERSARY TO ME!!!!!!
I just wanted to pop in and write a few lines to let everybody know how I have been. I turned the "BIG 50" the first part of this month and it didn't hurt at all, lol!
I have been so busy since I have lost my weight. I really do plan on getting a picture of myself posted on this site. Maybe I should make a promise to have that done by the end of this year. hmmmm?
All in all I have to say that having the RNY surgery was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am 5' 1/4" tall and weigh at this time 137lbs. I got down on my scales to 119 and I think on the doctors scales I was 122, I looked too skinny.......yes I said too skinny and was really starting to look sickly, very gaunt in the face. Well....... I purposely gained back 10 lbs. but also in the process gained an extra 10 lbs. So now I am having to work alot harder to get this extra 10 lbs. off back off, but I know I can do it so my goal is to have it off by Christmas.
I had been very loyal about walking 2 miles a day and drinking my water. But something changed this past winter with me, could have been all the snow we had in Reno, but I got out of my habit of walking and drinking all my water, so its up to me to get back on track with that and I will, as I feel soooo much better when I do and of course I look better too!!!!
I go into the AMOS site when ever I can and I read so much where people post that they have lost x amount of pounds "FOREVER", well....... nothing is forever. You can and will gain weight back if you don't stay on track. It is great to try some foods that have been forbidden in the first year, special occasions but very important to always get back to the basics of eating your protein first , then veggies and fruit, take your vitamins and "DRINK WATER" and yes WALK, WALK WALK at least 2 miles a day!!!Make sure to keep your appointments with your DOCTOR and get your LABS done. I have only missed one appointment in 4 years,( I was living too far away and the weather was bad) but I still sent my labs to my doctor. Dr. Frye and Evellyn N.P. are really great and the after care is very important, they want you to have labs done and go in at least once a year for 5 years after you have surgery.
I am maybe thinking about getting a pannilumy done this coming year, I will post if I do. I will quit writting for now and hope everybody is healthy and happy.
Hey Vickie Lynn , I am proud of you and hope to see you post some new pics of yourself too. Happy Anniversary to you too!!!

I read this on the Tempus site writen by Zoli and wanted to put this in my profile:

Don’t let the sins of yesterday follow you into today; let them vanish with the night. Give and ask forgiveness for those things that need it, take wisdom from those things that offer it, and let the new dawn bring hope and promise. Let today be a time for love to be renewed, for kindness to be offered and for wisdom to prevail. And at the end of day, let today’s sins also vanish with the night. Together we will let die the adversaries of shame and guilt, for ours is a spirit of strength and victory! Thankyou Zoli

My 4 year checkup went very well., all my labs were good. My weight has been staying pretty stable within 2-3 pounds. So I guess I can be classified as be very "NORMAL" now. tee-hee I am seriously going to check into getting this excess skin removed from my tummy and belly button area this winter. The problem is never going to go away, no matter what I use it still comes back.
I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. There is so much construction going on here that I bet we will be here for another year or two. I really would like to live back in Calif. so I could be closer to Fresno, but you got to stay where the work is and hubby was able to work all winter.
************************************************
11/15/05
Called and made an appointment for a conultation for reconstructive surgery with Dr. Strand in Reno. My appointment is on 12/13/05 at 10:45 a.m.
I also called and requested Dr. Frye and Dr. Sindmack to write a letter of medical nessesity.(Medically nessasary for reconstruction for hygiene and yeast infections, belly button sour and smells, burning itchy skin under apron.
**********************************************
11/25/05 Recieved letters from both doctors.
**********************************************
12/13/05
Had consultation with Dr. Gareth Strand. I took letters from Dr. Frye and Dr. Sindmack in with me. Dr. Strands staff took pictures of me and said they would send everything into Local #3 in Calif.
Dr. Strand went over the pros and cons of having this surgery. He took his time with me and answered my questions. I feel comfortable with him. When I went thru my consultation with Dr. Frye to have my gastric bypass surgery (RNY) I put the decision in God's hand's and he led me in the right direction, so I am doing the same with this surgery.
************************************************
1/5/06
GREAT NEWS!!!!! Dr. Strand's office called me and said the insurance had called in an authorization number and that I need to call back and talk with Meagan and make arrangements for a date for my surgery. Now I need to get busy on my protien intake and get it built up. It is so important for the healing process.
*********************************************
1/6/06
I am so stressed out right now, I called our insurance to ask some questions and found out our insurance ended on Dec. 31, 2005. We also have insurance in Nevada Operating Engineers but it isn't the same as Calif. I cannot believe this is happening, feel like I've been slapped in the face!:(
**********************************************
Well, I have to start all over again with "Nevada Operating Engineers". I spoke with a lady named Michelle and she said she would need more"documentation than just the letters or pictures that she had. I called Dr. Frye's office and they faxed my medical records to Nevada Ins.
************************************************
1/19/06
Michelle said she will send off info. from Dr. Frye and we should know something in a few days. Michelle was in the process of moving into a different office.
************************************************
1/25/05
Michelle decided to wait to get documentation from Dr. Sindmack before sending to the board.I called Dr. Sindmack's office to find out why the letter hadn't been sent and found out he was out of town for another week.I called Michelle back and she decided to just send in the documentation from Dr. Frye. So..... we should hear something back by 1/31/06
*********************************************
1/31/05
Michelle said I was denied as it doesn't show enough medical necessity. I thought for sure they would accept this with Dr. Frye's documentation. This is "MEDICALLY NECESSARY" and yes I am going to appeal this!!!!!
**************************************************
2/2/06
Recieved my letter from Nevada Operating Engineers with "BASED ON THE SUBMITTED DOCUMENTATION CERTIFICATION FOR MEDICAL NECESSITY WOULD NOT BE INDICATED" therefore your request is "DENIED.
I called Dr. Frye's office and spoke with Linda and told her I was goig to appeal this. She said that Dr. Frye has done all he can do for me, and she's right, they have been very prompt at getting the info. that was requested into the ins. company. I then called Dr. Sindmack's nurse and told her that I was going to appeal and to see if Dr. Sindmack could send another letter into the ins. company since he was out of town before.
*************************************************
Called Operating Engineers to see if we could do a resaprocity on my husbands hours and put it into the California hour bank , the answer is no as he is working and living in Nevada . We have the option to pay cobra but why put out a couple thousand dollars when we are fully covered in Nevada???? So back to the drawing board with an appeal
***********************************************
1/3/06
Recieved a faxed letter from Dr. Sindmack, I will send this in with my appeal letter.
************************************************
2/6/06
Called Dr. Strand's office spoke with Judy and requested a copy of what Dr. had sent into insurance company for my own records. Asked them to fax it to me.
************************************************
Michelle said I will be dealing with a lady named Bonnie with my any questions for my appeal.

SEPTEMBER 15, 2006

Hello all my wls buddies!! Just wanted to check in with you all and
share a little bit about myself. I am still living in Reno, and I
sure have missed not being able to go to the support group meetings,
but am glad to hear that this site will keep going , so I guess we
all need to quit being silent and start being active in posting
here. Whether we are doing good or bad it it important to get
support or give support when needed.
I had my RNY surgery August 29, 2001. I started out at 244
pounds and today I weigh 127lbs. That is a 117lb. loss!!!! I had
maintained my weight of 133 lbs. for the most part but...... had a
little gain this past winter as my knee went out on me and I found
myself feeling sorry for myself and before I knew it I was back to
some of my old habits of grazing on foods that were not very
healthy for me. Well..... I gained another 13 lbs. bringing me up
to 146, YIKES!!!!
I was really getting upset about this, but knew all along it was my
own fault. :( I ended up being scheduled for a knee replacement on
May 16th, so I called Dr. Fryes's office and spoke with Evelyn &
Linda and they told me to really up my protein, when you up your
protein you don't leave alot of room left for unneeded carbs. so
before I knew it the scales were headed downwards and I wasn't even
trying to lose weight just wanted to be ready for this surgery. Like
I said above, I now weigh 127 lbs, and I just feel great!!
Lesson out of this that even after 5 years "MY TOOL" is still
working, it just needed me to do my part. So.... if you have gained
weight, get back on the protein, drink 64 oz.water, and walk 2 miles
a day, and take your vitamins. We have had the best teachers thru
Tempus, so it's up to us to follow thru. I tell everybody that has a
hard time drinking water " If you can or could drink 2 or more 32oz.
sodas a day you should be able to drink 64 oz. of water in one day.
Would love to help anybody out that I can so feel free to
write. Let's keep this site open to all of us, please post.....
YABA DABA DOO!!!!! Marcia Rohrbough

I sent in a letter for an appeal for having reconstruction surgery for skin removal done today. My poor husband has had to put up with my moodiness here lately. It's just not fair to be accepted by an insurance in Calif. no questions asked  , than not being able to use it as the hours had run out of his medical bank, than we put it thru here in Nevada, and boom I got denied.     It's just not fair, but I am just going to have to cow girl up and leave thhis in GOD'S hands. If it's meant to be it will happen.  I'll post again when I hear something.
*************************************************************************
8/14/06
YES!!!!! I received a letter from the trust fund and they have agreed for me to have the skin removal after all!!! I am so happy and now I can get this done before the end of the year. I plan on calling and making an appointment for a consultation . I want
a second opinion but wanted to make sure the insurance was going to pay before I went any  further.THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU!!!
**************************************************************************
8/27/06
I have made  an appointment  for a consultation for
skin removal.  I go in on October 25th , I have talked to a few women that have had surgery by this doctor and they were very happy with their surgeries and the after care this doctor gave, sounds good so far.
**************************************************************************
9/12/06
We went up to Oregon for our son's wedding, it was beautiful. He and Laura were married on the beach at Lincoln City at the Inn at
Spanish Head. The weather was great. Got to see alot of family and
friends. Some had not seen  me since all my weight loss and I think
the best compliment I got was that "I look so Healthy". Yes, I do look healthy and I feel healthy, I am so thankful for this weight loss surgery. Now when I get this loose skin removed there will
really be a difference for me, no more stinky belly button and rashes under my apron as there won't be an apron anymore!!!! right????
************************************************************************
10/2/06
I can't beleive how fast this year has passed by, won't be long and Christmas will be here. We haven't made any plans for Thanksgiving or Christmas as I am waiting for a second opinion (consultation) so don't know when my surgery will take place. Hopefully before Thanksgiving so we can maybe spend Christmas with family up in Oregon.
*************************************************************************

10/15/06
My weight has been staying pretty much between 127-130, it's so funny how it bounces back and forth, it's got to be water. I have been reading up on the web about all the different people that have had skin removal, I have to admit that I'm not looking forward to the pain part of it. But I am looking forward to not having to use creams, powders, for hygine problems, or tucking my skin into my pants like a shirt. People just don't understand this, they see you in your clothes and think you look fantastic, but if they saw what was under the clothes it would definately turn their stomach's.
**************************************************************************
10/23/06
I go to my second consultation for skin removal on the 25th, looking forward to this and hoping to be as happy with this doctor as the other gals that I spoke with were. Halloween is just around the corner, I can remember when I was so heavey the only costume I could feel good in was being a fat pumpkin, glad those days are gone. Hope everybody has fun and don't eat too many sweets or you will pay highly as it's not fun dumping.
*************************************************************************
10/25/06
I went to see Dr. today, he was awful busy. They had me fill out a new patient form and let me know that the doctor would be with me in a little bit. A patient whom had surgery a few days earlier had came in with a few complications and I was impressed that they took her right to the back instead of making her wait out front, turned out she was okay, she told me that it hurts, but she definately would advise others to have this Dr.  do their surgery.
Anyways, I had my consult with the doctor and he had me tell him what was bothering me, I  told him that I needed  to have the apron removed and the skin above the bellybutton as the foul smells and yeast infections. Long story short, I thought he would clip my belybutton pull down the skin and than cut the loose skin off and make a new belly button, but he said I had been misinformed he told me a panniculectomy would only take care of the apron below the bellybutton and that I wouldn't be happy with just having that done as I would still have the problem with the skin hanging over the bellybutton, so he suggested me having an extended/ adominoplasty/lipectomy. So, the way I look at it the insurance would still pay for the panni part and I would have to come up with the rest. I really feel the whole thing should be paid for by the insurance as this is medically nessary for me to stop having these infections in my bellybutton also. The Dr. is going to be sending me a quote and I guess I'll know more after that.
**************************************************************************
10/27/06
I received my quotes from Dr.s office, I called the trust fund to find out if they  for sure would pay  for the panni. and was told the only way they wouldn't would be if my husband wasn't eligible, which he is. So I guess we'll wait and see how much the insurance will actually pay for this and than go from there. The quote from the insurance was they would pay up to $4,500.
*************************************************************************
11/2/06
Received a call from Chris at Dr.s  office, she needed me to answer a few questions ,she is the gal that set's up everything for having the surgery done. She said she would call me back if I need to come back in to have pictures taken. I told her I shouldn't as I had already had pictures taken at the first doctors office and the insurance had them, she said she would find out, so I don't really understand why she is having to do this since I already have been approved with the insurance. hmmmm? I'll write more when I know more.......
**************************************************************************
11/7/06
I called Chris at Dr.  office to find out what was going on with my surgery date and your not going to beleive this...... since I have decided to usethis Dr. instead of the original doctor I had my first consult with and the insurance had approved I have to start all over again!!!!!! I AM SOOOOOO UPSET!!!!! This is unbeleivable!!!! I waited to have a second opinion from a plastic surgeon until I could find out from the insurance would approve this surgery first. Both of these doctors are on our PPO PLAN, I thought they would just transfer it over to this doctor, I would never have thought I would be starting all over again. hopefully this will be approved with no problem. I will post again when I know something more.
