I started my adventure in Sept. of 2012.  I had heard a lot about WLS, knew some coworkers who had had the RNY, but had never really thought it as an option.  I'm not even really sure what brought it to the forefront in conversations with my husband, it just sort of happened.  I made an appt with my pcp and was a nervous wreck.  Would he give me the approval?  Did he think it was a good idea?? Yes and yes, in fact he thought it was the best treatment option for my diabetes.  I'd been living with diabetes for at least 10 years, and still did not have good control.  Fasting levels never came down, no matter how much insulin I took.  By Sept, I was on 4 insulin shots a day, along with bp and chol meds.  Within a month and a half of my appt with the PCP, I had met all the requirements, including my visit with Dr. Teel.  Although he doesn't normally recommend doing the DS, I seemed to be the prefect candidate with my diabetes.  By the beginning of November, I had the approval from the insurance company and my date was set!  Now, I'm on the losers bench just waiting for the rest of my life!!
