Hi, my name is Nancy and this is my story.......I have as all of you on this site battled a weight problem for over 25 years with my highest weight at 220 back in 1994. I have tried every diet center, diet plan, diet pill and diet gimmick that has come along with only marginal results. Around September 2006 I noticed a couple of co-workers who had lost a tremendous amount of weight seemingly overnight and when I asked them how they did it they said WLS. So my search began......I found this web site one evening and after reading many of the profiles and looking at the pictures I knew I had to learn more about WLS. I talked to several centers and finally settled on a bariatric group in Piedas Negras, Mexico that performed the gastric sleeve. The few people I mentioned this to was anxious because of all the places I could go to have this surgery, why Mexico, but the main reason was because I spoke with several people from New York to Hawaii that had flown thousands of miles because of Dr. Alvarez' and Dr. Rodriquez' reputation and they all swore that he was the best. I know there are many good reputable doctors in the states but for me this is where I felt comfortable.
Although I have excellent insurance they would not pay for WLS because my BMI wasn't high enough (they said it had to be at least 40) so after talking it over with my wonderful and supportive husband I decided to self pay. I was scheduled for surgery December 9, 2006 and have lost 14 lbs. in 13 days. Even though I am still very much in the healing stage and every day is an adventure with my food choices I am absolutely delighted with my gastric sleeve and hopefully I will continue to lose weight steadily and consistently until I reach my goal weight of 135.
