six month update

Feb 17, 2011

On February 10th it was exactly 6 months since I had my roux-ny.  That was Thursday of last week.  On Wednesday I visited my doctor for my 6 month check up.  I absolutely wanted to hit 100 lbs lost by the 10th, but really wanted to be down by 100 lbs before I saw the doctor.  On Monday of last week I hit the 100 lbs lost mark.  By the time I saw the doc I was down 102 lbs.  As of today I am down 103 lbs.  I started out this journey wearing 5X tops from Woman Within and now comfortable wear a 1X.  I used to wear a 4X or 32W in pants or jeans and now wear a 20W or a L.  One of the best side effects of surgery has come with the reduced pain.  I was overweight all of my life, from childhood.  When I would walk up and down stairs my knees used to ache and that first step out of bed in the morning was a killer.  Now I am happy to say that the pain is gone.  It is easier to walk, bend, lift, and move around.   I am really hoping to reach a goal of 160-180 lbs.  I know for my height, a weight of 140 lbs would be an ideal BMI, but realistically I understand there will be extra skin.  My doctor believes my goal of weighing less then my hubby, around 175 lbs is realistic.  All of my labs have been good since surgery.  He did prescribe vitamin D after this last visit and said mine was a little low.  My pouch has good and bad days.  Some days dense protein is harder to get down then others and sometimes I throw up.  I occasionally eat a sugar free cookie or piece of candy, but have never really cheated with a full sugar treat.  So far no dumping, just the occasional ate too fast or ate too much.  I am grateful for the oppurtunity to have had the surgery.  I am glad I did finally did it!!
