Slip Ups

Apr 02, 2009

Ok, I have been journaling for about 3 weeks now. Though I did fall off one week and I notice a significant trend and that iscravings! Wow, cravings will be the death of me I promise. I need to either eat or drink some kind of sweet every night. Its always after school and its sometimes real bad. I have tried to see what makes it happen and I cant see a trend. I need an objective eye. On another note, I wieghed in today and it looks like I have lost 4-6 pounds since my fill. So I think thats nice. Also, went to the park today with the boys and that was wonderful!

1/27/06 I finished all the tests required to submit my petition to my insurance company. I am anxiously awaiting what they will say. I figure if they say now I better plan on how I am going to lose this tremendous amount of weight. I was watching my reflection in the store windows and I thought "dam are you wobbling now?" I dont want to be like this any more!

2/7/06 I am approved for the band! I have a surgery date of 2/21. They said they wanted me to move it to 2/23 but I said "no" since I need max. healing time before returning to work and Im off that week.

Im feeling worried about my husband. He is overwieght too and when I told him I was approved he was like "oh o" "somebody is gonna be looking slim, I better hit the gym" I dont want him to feel like its a competition. When we went on diets before he always lost more weight than me.

2/20
Its the day before my surgery and I am not feeling nervous. I do wonder if the band will work for me. Will I actually loose weight? Will I be one of those people who gets restriction right away or will I have to wait until my fifth fill? I wonder if I will have gas pains, will I be able to make it through the day when I go back to work, will I be able to pick up my baby? All day these questions are going through my mind.

I have made an observation as of late. I am not having "The Last Supper Syndrome" right now. In fact I did have it when I left the docs office after my consultation but now when I am about to have the surgery NADA! Which is great! In fact I have been having more water, not drinking with meals and having CIB in the morning to prep. Im not eating as much as I was. I could easily eat 3-4 cups of food...its gonna be so weird when Im eating 1 cup!

I also cant wait to hit the gym. Im thinking about joinging Weight Watchers after the surgery to track the weight loss and for motivation. When I got married I lost 30 lbs on weight watchers and I loved the way I looked. I also loved getting the stars, keychain and tracking the weight. We'll see. It might be good to have my husband join with me so that he can learn some of the healthy portion lessons. I will ask him.

Well pray for me, tomarrow is the big day!

Here is a list I found of what to take and have on hand when you get back home from the hospital:

heating pad
flexible ice pack
liquid tylenol (they make adult strength)
chewable or liquid gas-x
a few books or movies
comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or jumpers)
squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt)
a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days)
protien shakes
flavored water
chapstick
make sure you have a good blender
I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10 at walmart)
broth or stuff to make broth
sugarfree popsicles and jello
sugar free gum (ask your doctor)
sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor)

Well Im recovering. I have been given pill forms of Pepcid to prevent nausea and Vicotin for pain. The first three days I was really out of it. Sleeping alot, not cleaning, watching TV excessively. All I thought about was what I was going to drink and if it was time for a drink. Turns out I was way too hungry to stay on clear liquids long, I did move onto full liquids and even some mushies. Oh this helped so much! I am only eating 6 oz 3X a day and drinking lots. I like to have a hot tea at night to wrap it up and clean out the pouch nicely. My stomach is growling so much and Im still thinking about eating all the time. I have to see the doctor this week and I hope I dont get in trouble for fudging the rules. I know this will more than likely bite my bootie!

3/1 The message boards are very important to me because I can always find really valueable information and insight. Tracy_N Texas posted the rules today and I just want to have them on my profile so I have a reminder to make sure to follow them. She lost 100 lbs so I think its safe to say she knows what she is talking about. These are the rules as she listed them:

Follow the 10 rules:

Eat only three small meals a day (I still believe in a 3 o'clock snack lol)
Eat slowly and chew thoroughly (15-20 times a bite)
Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied
Do not drink while you are eating
Do not eat between meals
Eat only good quality food
Avoid fibrous food
Drink enough fluids during the day
Drink only low-calorie fluids
Exercise at least 30 minutes a day

And if you are following all of these but haven 't lost a lb in 4 weeks, get a fill! Stay on top of your fills, that is so important.

Getting ready for my first fill this week. Lots of expectations.
Here is some good info. about fills:
Port Adjustments

How to tell when band tightness is just right:

*Speed of weight loss is at desired rate
*Patient able to eat an appropriate range and amount of food
*Hunger between meals is less of a problem
*No excessive vomiting, pain with eating, or heartburn

When to Consider tightening the band:

*Poor weight loss
*Patient becomes hungry too quickly after meals or is hungry between meals
*Patient able to eat large volume of food without difficulty

When to Consider loosening the Band (band is too tight):

* Patient have excessive vomiting, pain and heartburn
* Patient relys heavily on soft foods, often resorting to eating high calorie foods
* Patient have difficulties eating recommended variety of foods, including lean meats and vegetables and fruits

Port Adjustment: General Principles

*Goal is to achieve sensation of feeling full for long period of time after eating
*Weight loss should be gradual, approximately 1-2 pounds per week
*Tightening should NOT lead to heartburn, vomiting, or pain with eating appropriate foods
*Goal weight loss achieved over 18 months to 3 years

Wow I have not updated in so long and mostly because I wasnt getting adjusted. I am now getting adjusted every four weeks, I am getting some restricition and my eating habits have changed slightly. I have to say though that without the little restriction I had been getting I go right back to eating anything and everything.
