Almost 4 months out!

Mar 19, 2009

Time flies.  I can't believe I am 4 months out.  I am down a little over 75 lbs.  I am so proud of myself.  This is a weight I haven't seen in over 15 yrs.  I must say I feel good.  I have a new found confidence that wasn't there even when I was at my thinnest.   It isn't just the weight I lost it is the sense of accomplishment and the great feeling that I am finally taking care of me.
I am having some issues getting to the gym, or maybe they are excuses.  I am working on that though.  I also have been really fighting my "head"hunger at night.  The old late night munchies call me alot.  More when I am frustrated or upset.  I win those fights more than I lose them.
I posted my first goal on OH...I want to walk/run a 5k next month.  Probably will do mostly walking for this one, but aim to be running one of these before the end of the year with my sister.  She does them often and is training for a triathalon too.
I try not to focus on the numbers on the scale too much.  If I keep doing the things I am supposed to, and working the tool Dr Cussatti gave me, the scale will go in the right direction.

Little over 2 months out

Feb 03, 2009

I am just a little over 2 months out from my 11-24th surgery.  I feel really good.  I am down 61 lbs total.  Also down a few sizes.  People who haven't seen me really notice a difference now.  I need to take some new pics so I can see it too.  I have been very open about my surgery from the get go so I am constantly being asked "so how much have you lost?"  It was bothering me but I am so proud of myself that I don't really care anymore.  I have much more energy and feel younger everyday.  I am only sorry that I didn't do this sooner.

Surgery on 11/24

Nov 26, 2008

Well I am officially on the losers bench!  Seemed like it would never get here but when it got closer it seemed so fast!!!  Surgery was a success, Dr was able to do it laproscopicly (sp??).  I used the pain meds in the hospital, but didn't feel like I needed them after last night.  Gas pain has been minimal so far.  I am not ready to run a marathon yet, but have been sipping and walking when I can.  I stayed 2 nights in the hospital and came home this morning.    So far my experience has been a good one.  Worst part so far was being away from my kids, 19, 4 & 3.  I was never away from them for that long.  Best thing I ever did for myself was research and educate myself on all aspects.  The message boards were a huge resource of information. Knowing what to expect made the whole experience less stressful for me.

APPEAL APPROVED AND GOT A DATE!

Oct 27, 2008

My 40th birthday was Sun 10/26 and I got my approval letter in the mail on Friday!!!!  Called the surgeon's office Monday morning and by Monday afternoon I had a date!!!!
Surgery is scheduled for Monday 11/24th.

I got my birthday wish!  What better present could I ask for?

DENIED!!!!

Oct 10, 2008

I am so upset that I got denied from the insurance.  They said I didn't meet their 5 year criteria for surgery....

Well of course I am appealing.  I sent all my documentation in again and am just waiting.   I never thought I would get denied.  My company's insurance approves so many people all the time for the lap band, I never expected to have any problems.  Especially not with a BMI as high as mine.
Of course everyone I know gets this look on their face like how in the world did you get denied....I know they are trying to be supportive but it bothers me a bit too.  Do you know what I mean?  Like how could they deny you, as big as you are?????....I feel like that is what they are thinking.

Well, I got over 5 yrs worth of weigh ins from my OB/GYN, since my regular doctor's office doesn't do weigh ins on a regular basis.......that should cover the denial reason.  Hopefully that info with the letter of appeal that I wrote are enough to make them reverse their decision.

Say a prayer for me!
Thanks,
Noelle

met with surgeon today

Sep 02, 2008

Well I met with my surgeon today, what a cutie...anyway...went in all gung ho for the VSG procedure...talked about all my options with him and left the office with him submitting to the insurance for the gastric bypass.  Well not my original plan but I am happy about the decision.
He said he should hear from the insurance in 1-2 weeks and then we can schedule the surgery for about 3-4 weeks from then.
So excited!!  Looks like all will be done by my birthday at the end of October...

Almost there!

Aug 18, 2008

I have one more visit with the Nut on 8/22 and forgot that I had to set up an appt with the Bariatric Surgery coordinator at the hospital prior to me appt with the surgeon....so cancelled my 8/21 appt, & rescheduled for 9/2 with him.  God willing I will get a surgery date then....
I am getting so excited that I am so close now!

Getting there...

Aug 04, 2008

I have gotten clearances from all of my pre-surgery consultations other than the gastro......ist (can't say or spell that).  I have to have 2 tests, and endoscopy (on 8/7) and a colonoscopy (on 8/11).  I am soooooo excited.  I meet with Dr Cussatti on 8/21 and hope to schedule a tentative surgery date then.  Will be keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with the insurance company...

Ok, things are moving right along.  I have made all my pre-sugical consultation appointments.  Now I just have to complete them.  I feel like I am making progress.
I found out that my insurance does not cover the nutrionist visits, unless you have another issue like Diabetes.  I was a little discouraged because money is pretty tight and I was afraid that might hold up everything.  Well luckily if you don't have insurance coverage,  they run a special for the 3 visits they require that is affordable.  I was so excited.  You would think I won something the way I felt.  I am really getting excited now.

Well, I went to the seminar my surgeon mandates.  I am so excited to get this surgery.  I understand more now about the VSG procedure and also more about the lap band and bypass.  He covered all 3.  I am even more sure that the VSG is the way I want to go now.
I am getting mixed support from my family.  My 19 yr old is thrilled that I am going to do this for me.  He couldn't be more supportive.  Even went for a walk with me and the 2 little ones this past weekend because I am trying to start moving more now so when the time comes it won't be a huge shock to my system.  He said when I get to where I want to be I better not start wearing mini skirts!  LOL...I don't think I have ever worn a miniskirt...maybe in 10th grade... .   My mom is another big supporter...not so true of some of my friends though.  I think some of them think of having WLS as cheating...I don't, you still need to work hard at it!!  I think they may be worried that I may change.  Trying to not take it too seriously, after all this is for me and my kids not anyone else.
I am in the process of scheduling all my dr's appts for surgery clearance.  I meet all the criterias according to my insurance so I don't think I will have too much of an issue as far as that is concerned.  We shall see though...
