In October 2007 I made the decision to have Lapband surgery. I have been obese for my entire adult life. My highest weight was 325 pounds. My general practitioner was completely against the surgery I had to fight to get it done. I finally had my surgery March 2008. It went very well and within a year I had lost 90 pounds. I started having issues with pain about an hour after eating. Had the band emptied and was diagnosed with gastritis and delayed gastric emptying. When I started to feel better started to re-fill the band. My diet was very limited. I was stuck on mainly soft foods, no hard proteins. Even with the band empty I could not eat solid proteins. They would just sit in my stomach and eventually cause pain and I would force myself to throw it up. I began a vicious cycle of eating then having pain about an hour later an then making myself throw up. Finally the inevitable happened...my stomach slipped up through my band. I met with the surgeon and she un-filled me. We discussed my options. I was interested in the VSG but she felt with the delayed gastric emptying it was not a good choice, if we did another band the same thing would likely happen. So RNY it is.
I am scheduled for surgery on January 30. I am excited and nervous. I don't know what to expect as far as weight loss. I am hoping to get down to about 175 because I can't imagine getting any lower. I just can't imagine it. I start my pre-surgical liquid diet on Monday January 16th. I am at pre-surgical testing right now. This is really going to happen. I can't wait to see where this journey leads me.
