Well here is my synopsis of my story. I have been batteling my weight since high school. It wasn't until after high school that weight became a struggle. My guess is do to low physical activity( unless you counted beer pong, or ummm beer pong), and drinking and then finishing off the night with Taco Bell! Woo Hoo. Anyways, later came  marriage ( add 15 pounds) and 3 babies two years apart( add 55 pounds ), so here we are. Diets work for about 30 pounds and then slowly 40 pounds come back. I came to the decision to have WLS in feb of 2005. I always thought, oh I don't need that, I could do it if I really wanted too. Sure I could, if I want to eat cottage cheese and bananas for the rest of my life. It simply was not realistic. I am active, I do work out, but I needed a bigger push. I decided to go sit in on a seminar and there were people of all ages, and health problems. I look at my mother who can't walk from her car, up the drive way , into the house with out huffing and puffing. I don't want to be that person. So after the semniar I began the work to see if and how I could be approved for surgery.

March of 06 , I found out that my insurance can cover the bypass, but not lap band. Good News for those who have Tri Care! So I found Dr. Fontana with Norfolk Surgical Group. They are wonderful! They use a whole campus approach to your weight loss. Your psychiatric eval, nutrition, dietary, as long as support groups and all the support you can get. I highly reccomend them! Anyways, all went well, I was almost through with the process, blood checks, ekg, eval , etc. I did get held up on the eval because the Doctor wanted to make sure that I could cut out the caffeine, and learn to take time for myself. This is an important lesson to learn, now looking back in retrospect. For those of you reading this that are pre op or thinking about it, remember that you must take time to take care ofyour self first, and others second, or you won't be able to take care of them at ll.

Anyways, june of 06 I was through with the psych hold up and then we thought my mother came down with lung cancer, so I held off on going back to NSG until my mother was okay. She ended up having a disease called Sarcadosis. So October of 06 I was aproved. Instead of being excited and jumping for joy, I was feeling Oh crap, I am really doing this now.

From October until early December, I tried hard to avoid the last supper syndrome, I did drink a few more cocktails than usual, but other than that, i did pretty well.

Had the class before surgery on the 12th of December and was greatful for the refresher.

Met with Dr. Fontana on the 15th of December and he told me about the one week liquid diet which started the 20 which ran through CHristmas. AHHH< no once a year goodies. I was also okay with this, although I do miss no bake chocolate cookies. Oh well

Surgery Dec27. Not so bad, two hours later and I was officialy a roux en y gastric bypass patient. It did hurt when I woke up, can't remember too much about it. I did not like the morphine at all. But you can't really swallow anyt thing, and all you are allowed any thing but an oral swab. WOO HOO>

Stayed in the hospital until the 31st due to extreme nausea and up chucking constantly. Ended up that my pouch or the tissue around it was swollen so it was irritated easily.

Two weeks post op I dropped 24 pounds ( which I still can't believe) and had a difficult time keeping up with fluids. I have had to IV treatements, after which I felt tons better. Right now I am trying to just keep fluids in and I have been given the green light for soft or pureed foods, which at this point I have no interest in. This is it for now!
