Goals and Surgery Date!

 April 10, 2006

There are so many things I want to be able to do and right now, cannot. I decided to make some goals:

  1. Be able to wear a seat belt
  2. Walk up the front steps without having to drag myself up by pulling on the rail
  3. Walk for more than a few feet without being totally out of breath
  4. Be able to wipe my own tail without practically standing on my head
  5. Shower without having to use a shower stool or an extender sponge
  6. Put my shoes on and tie them without struggling
  7. Stand in one place for more than a few minutes without hip, back and leg pain.
  8. Be intimate with my husband with the lights on. J
  9. Have enough energy to actually go shopping or to a social event and enjoy it.
  10. Keep up with my husband.
  11. Go to CURVES three times a week.

Where Do I Begin?

Sep 13, 2011

 April 2, 2006

Where do I begin? Being overweight is not new to me but being this big is! Currently I am at a BMI of 60 and with my height of only 5’0”. I thought I was at least 5’1” but when they measured me last week, I had shrunk!

My husband, Tom, had WLS one year ago and has lost nearly 200#. I am so proud of him! He has had no complications except for one episode of vomiting from eating too big a bite of something. He is off 14 of the 17 meds he was on and no longer has the 24/7 oxygen tank to carry around! He looks and feels great!

We have only been married since June 4, 2005; took us over 50 years to find each other but we think it was well worth the wait! J  I want to have the surgery so that I am able to enjoy life more and be more active. Whether it will help my disabilities of pulmonary hypertension, CFIDS (chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome), acquired agammaglobulinemia, etc., or not doesn’t matter. I know I would feel better and live longer and be more healthy; that is what is more important! Any other benefit is just icing on top of the proverbial cake!

Went to the WLS presentation at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.  Several others there too; Dr. Christine Gupta was the speaker.  Had a surgical evaluation done afterward with her and she feels I would be a good candidate. Also had the required psych eval and passed it as well.  Now will have to wait on them for more information. Since I have Medicare only for insurance, and Medicare has recently changed their requirements (again!) I need to wait for the office to get my paperwork back from the insurers and they will then set a surgery date.  Can’t wait!
