not just a number on the scale

Sep 27, 2014

I saw my surgeon o sept. 4th 2014 and he said I was doing well and that he wanted me to loose minimum of 10lbs and maximum of 15lbs and no more he wants me to be healthy and not to just think of reaching a number on the scale he does want me to maintain my weight saying I have to weigh myself often but to not let the scale over take me knowing people have fluctuations when we have water retention to constipation ... when the scale will have an higher number then we will have the days when the scale will be normal when our body is not going threw changes but ok. I wanted to lose 30lbs more but I only been looking at a number on the scale I do not have to use my walker nor my cane or my heavy knee brace I also was off of my two high blood pressure pills one week after my surgery and off of my high cholesterol meds after a month I can walk 5 miles and do various exercises with no problem some not so perfect but at least I am moving I eat more healthier and still is working on getting better with it. I am slowly but steadily getting there every day is a journey on the path of getting closer to a more rounded person. I am also working on getting out more around people and one day a relationship with someone for life but now I tell people I am being selfish and taking care of me so I am learning to like me and love me and like the scale and live life and love life and I pray every one that is on this journey or will be taking this journey do not rush do not just think of numbers on a scale but your health in total do not worry about people saying don't lose any more weight or you should lose more weight do not compare yourself with any one but yourself your journey will have ups and downs but if you don't give up you will end up with ups and no more downs and between you and your dr and your body you will know when the scale has reached your goal of healthiness for you god bless all

book "before and after" by: susan maria leach

Mar 06, 2014

this book is a must have. I love this book. it tells about her story before the surgery and after the surgery RNY and even though I had gastric sleeve I use this book as well. she explains about proteins and sugar and carbs plus she has lists of foods with portion and count for them and many recipes you will love. I promise you will love it. I found mine in the second hand store twice so see if you can find one there or in the book store or internet the book cover is soft rose color but the book is black and when you get close to the binding it is white. I pray you find this book it is one you will keep with you forever

sleeping positions after surgery

Mar 02, 2014

hi everyone, I remembered when I first came home from the hospital I took all my pillows and covers and laid back in my over large lazy boy chair. I new that I didn't want to sleep in my bed considering I was going to be laying on my back for a while, it is easier to get up and down plus I di not have to worry about rolling over on my tummy. then when I did tart to sleep in my bed I used my body pillow to enable me to sleep on my side so that my tummy is not flat on the bed but last night I slept on my tummy for the first time it felt good not to sleep on just my back. whether a chair or a bed or a sofa or what ever it may be as long as you are comfortable until you sleep on your tummy again which you will be able to do again but do not rush it make sure your tummy is healing well and for me I also waited till my scabs was off so as not to miss and rub them off too early. sweet dreams and find your relaxing positions

hydration, hydration, hydration

Feb 16, 2014

please drink plenty of water we hear this all the time and we say we will,  this is easy to say and harder to do. with drinking protein and some food plus trying to get the water in is hard but don't give in it gets better as time go by to get more in even when you are not thirsty remember to sip I had to go back to the hospital and stay a couple of days so the could pump me with fluid snd the worst thing of it all three people could not find my veins to get blood and or put the iv in it hurt but not as bad as I felt  I was so dehydrated I do not want to experience that again, tea, water mixed apple juice, broth and sugar free drinks plus ice pops. so I end this with the word hydration, hydration, hydration

last supper

Jan 24, 2014

i have mentioned about having my last supper i have been going to different restaurants eating things i like but will not be eating after i have surgery ever again. my surgery is feb. 6, 2014 and my birthday is feb. 16, 2014 so i will also have my birthday dinner early with my family this is a good time for me to be able to share my favorite foods with people who will also be with me on this journey with their support as i will be reborn on the day of my surgery and will be having a totally different life changing way of eating and living. so enjoy your last meal and know up to the moment you can not eat some of those things again that you have made the right choice for yourself to have surgery!!! enjoy the last bite, i am.

p.s. do not over eat and do not gain weight

liquid diet

Jan 24, 2014

my surgeon office told me i did not have to do a liquid diet or any special diet. i do drink a protein shake once a day but i must admit i am eating things i like that i will not be eating after surgery any more in other words i am having my last supper stretched out instead of one day but i am not over eating when i eat that will make me sick i deal with acid reflux some times so i have to be carful of what i eat and the time i eat it. i know that the two days before my surgery all this will change as with any surgery and for the people who have to do a liquid diet before surgery i know you will be glad when it is over my god bless you to go threw it with ease.
