Dear Pamela, The Lap-Band is a wonderful tool. I'm very happy you and I have the Lap-Band. You are an inspiration to me. Why? Because you know how important your health is to you and also to your family. Wow, do I know how important health is to me. Thank you for letting me be a part of your new walk in life. You look great and your energy is inspiring. Hugs, Roxanne

An insignificant correction. Previously I mentioned that I went on a pre-op diet for 4 ¾ months, but it was for 5 ¾ months. See I told you it was insignificant. I guess I’d better brush up on my math skills LOL! Some have been surprised by the length of my pre-op diet. So I just thought I’d explain for the curious. “I” chose to be on it that long and lose that much (77 pounds, 26% of my start weight of 295 pounds, 53% of my excess weight). My doctor “generally” “requests” a 10% weight loss (30 pounds for me). I know he is not a stickler about the entire 10% since most of his patients ‘that I have talked to’ have only lost about 8 to 15 pounds and so far none ‘that I have talked to’ has lost the whole 10%. Well I felt that I couldn’t wait around for months and months to start getting healthy. So I started my pre-op diet about a month after I decided to have WLS, because I knew that whatever I lost would be a head start and bonus AND most importantly that I would not gain it back since I was getting the necessary lap-band tool to keep it off! About 4 years ago I lost 100 pounds, but gained it all back plus some. So this lap-band tool I now have is very necessary to my health and I’m so glad to have it! So now I see myself about 6 months and 77 pounds closer to being healthy!!! :-) Pamela

Clarification of what I said. I don’t want to give anyone the wrong impression, especially pre-bandsters. I had surgery on Tuesday and started using my treadmill when I got home on Wednesday. So when I say using my treadmill, I am just walking very slowly and only a few minutes at a time. It is a manual treadmill and I can control the speed so I can go very slowly. When I get stiff from sitting or lying down I get on the treadmill and feel MUCH better. I am NOT exercising and working up a sweat! It is the equivalent to walking around the halls of a hospital, which is good for healing. Pamela

My lap-band surgery was successful! I had lap-band surgery Tuesday morning and went home Wednesday morning. When I woke up I was very uncomfortable but no real pain. Of course I had pain medication in me and kept it flowing so when it all ran out just before I went home I felt a lot stiffer. The Upper GI test went well. I didn’t drink anything at all on Tuesday, but after the Upper GI test on Wednesday I tolerated breakfast well. I’m now taking pain medication at home. It helps a little. I hope I am not so stiff tomorrow for Christmas. I’ve been walking on my treadmill on and off all day. The most discomfort I am having is near where my IV was, the outside of my wrist and it radiates down at least 6 to 8 inches. It is very tender to the touch. It feels like I should see a big bruise but I don't. Weird huh? I am very happy that I am now an official Bandster!!! Pamela

Hi Everyone, Pamela had her Lap-Band surgery this morning. She is doing very well. A bit tired and not in a lot of pain. What a gal. Met her husband and saw her darling 2 yr. old son, Brice. Brice is an adorable little man. ;) Her surgery was for 10:30 am, and when she arrived at Peninsula Hospital at 9:00 am (I believe), Dr. Wetter was ready to have Pamela prepped for her Lap-Band surgery. Pamela, I'm very excited for you. Congratulations and best wishes for a blessed recovery. See you soon, Pamela. ;D Hugs, Roxanne

I’m getting my lap-band surgery today! I can’t wait to not be hungry every single night as I have been for the past 4 ¾ months since I started my pre-op diet. Knowing the hunger would end is what kept me going AND THE TIME IS NOW! PHEW!!! So I started at 295 pounds BMI 49.1and I’m now down 77 pounds and weigh 218 pounds BMI 36.3. Normal weight for my height of 5’5” starts at 149 pounds BMI 24.8 so that is 146 pounds, so I have lost 53% of my excess weight! :-) However, regarding my personal weight goals, I have two. The first one is my Health Goal the MOST IMPORTANT, my main goal, of losing enough weight to get rid of my sleep apnea and constant daily fatigue! I don’t care what weight that it is as long as I feel good. That would make me happier than ANYTHING!!! My guess is about 165 pounds. So after that then we get into vanity, hee hee. So my Appearance Goal, my ultimate goal, would be 135 pounds. That was my young adult weight and I felt like I looked good at that weight. My “angel” Roxanne will update you after my surgery. I will update you guys when I feel well enough. Pamela
