Gastro-Gastric Fistula
Jun 27, 2016
I am now 13+ years post-op. I had the open RNY with silastic ring. I have had a long road. I was semi okay for 4 years. I had a bad problem with my potassium dropping. I was in the hospital for 3 months to get it regulated. They thought that I might have a heart attack. It was so scary. The doctor that did my RNY retired shortly following. I ended up having a feeding tube placed into my native stomach. They said I would need it the rest of my life. I wondered at times how long that would be. I had a "Mickey Button" which was much better than the tube hanging out all the time. I kept it for 5 years. I decided to have it removed. It was hard, but I tried to eat as much as I could. I have SEVERE problems with mal-absorption. I have had bad pain like a charley horse under my ribs and my hands & feet. I had to go to the ER because of pain and nausea & vomiting for over a week. I am on IV fluids at home for hydration. They did a CT Scan which showed contrast getting into my native stomach. My GI doctor did an upper endoscopy and confirmed the inflammation at the stoma. I went to see the bariatric surgeon that took over for my doctor. She ordered the vitamin levels and a few other labs. She said she would have to get the results and consult with Dr. Steinberg, her colleague, as she has never done this kind of revision. I got the lab results today. I imagine her office did too. I have had a long history of abdominal surgery before my RNY. I have a lot of adhesions. I've had to have a bowel resection due to bowel obstructions, hysterectomy. I am having a very hard time with this. I would like to get all the surgery at one time. Maybe even skin removal. It worries me that she hasn't done this before. I know she'll do her homework. But it is scary. Would love to know how others have done. Revision?
