I'm Home!!!

Feb 12, 2011

Hi everyone!!  I am home now.  Actually I came home on 02/11/11.  The night before surgery I went and stayed with my mom in Orange County. Did I mention I HATE Milk of Magnesia?? No wonder they make u take it at noon the day before surgery.  Anyway back to my hospital stay, I just had to mention that though. Lol. So my mom and aunt took me to the hospital @ 5:30, but my surgery wasn't until 9:30.  I was a little nervous before my surgery, my two fears were not waking up from anasthesia because this was my first time being put under and being woken up with the intubation tube but after I talked to the anasthesiologist, Dr. Lei,  he put my fears to rest. He asuured me that I will wake up and they will definitely not wake me up with the tube in my throat.  After that I was fine.  I actually fell asleep in the OR while they were strapping me in, before he gave me the anasthesia. Lol.  When I woke up in the recovery room @ 1:00 I asked the nurse if we were starting the surgery soon and she said we were done. Wow. Next I asked her was it open or 6 little incisions and she told me 6 incisions.  They told me that my room was ready and I would be spending the night in ICU because when I slept my O2 Sat dropped in the low 80's.  I got to ICU and the nurses were amazing, they did everything to make me feel comfortable.  They ordered me a binder to wrap around my stomach, but to be honest I didn't have much pain like I thought I would.  My pain was mainly from gas, which gave me neck, shoulder, back and chest pain and a massive headache.  I was able to get up by myself, walk and use the bathroom w/o problems.  The nurses told me you look great.  BTW, morphine makes me sick, I was on the PCA pump and didn't even use it, it made me real sick.  The next day I woke up, washed up in the bathroom and they told me they were transferring me to med-surg floor.  They put me in a private room there too, so that was nice because there were some loud patients. Haha. My doctor came to see me while I was walking the halls and told me I looked great and the reason I was not having so much pain was because I walked 3 miles a day before the surgery and this surgery has a lot to do with your stomach muscles.  So I guess the best advice I can give before anyone has this surgery  is work your stomach muscles.  The doctor said I was ok to have a shower and I would be going home tomorrow (02/11/11). YippeeMy hospital stay was amazing, every person I encountered including people from linen, helped me with anything I needed.  This was my first time ever staying in a hospital and they treated me like a princess.  I got home on 2/11/11 at 1pm and it felt so good to be home. I am slowly advancing on my walking everyday, I'm up to a lil over a 1/2 mile now, trying for 3/4 mile tomorrow. Well I have written a novel so I better go to bed.  Congratulations to everyone having surgery this week.
