I finally have a normal BMI of 24.8!  I now weigh 140 pounds..... I have lost 104 from my highest weight of 244.  I wear size 10 or 12 pants and medium/large tops (depends on the style & brand).  My bra size went from a 42 DD to a 36 B.  10 more pounds to reach my goal

9 Months out and down 90 lbs.

Aug 13, 2009

Wow, I have been meaning to update and post on here, but just took the time today - I didn't realize how long it has been.

Today is my 9 month surgiversary and I am down 90 lbs.  I now weigh 154 and I wear size 14 pants and L/XL tops.  My rings all have to be re-sized because I lost at least a size on those - my ring finger is now a size 6.  Also, my shoe size went down from a 7-1/2 to a 6-1/2 or 7, depending on the shoe...... how weird, huh?  I had heard that it was possible for that to happen, but my feet were not fat, so I did not expect it to happen to me.

I saw Dr. Richi last night and he was very pleased with my progress.  I have only vomited 3 times, and the last time was in March.  Food goes down easily for me - even the bad stuff like bread, pasta,.pretzels and potato chips.  I am still avoiding carbonated beverages and sweets, although I have had bites here & there of cake, brownies & ice cream.  I just make sure to watch it and be careful.

Also, I do go to the gym, although this summer I have slacked.  Once the kids are back in school I can get back to my regular routine.

That's about all for now......... hope to update again in a month or so.

6-1/2 Months Out... Down 82 Pounds :)

May 29, 2009

I had every intention of posting a blog and a photo on May 13th, which was my 6 month surgiversary, but I just didn't get around to it.  Now I am approaching 7 months post-op and I am still seeing results.  For the month of May I have lost 7.5 lbs.  I think this is the first month I have not lost 10 lbs. - but I am ok with it.

As for clothes - I am now in a 14/14w/16 for pants and shorts and a large or x-large top - both depend on the brand and style.  Sizes can vary with different brands........ as I have also discovered with bras!  A "C" cup can vary from one brand to the next.  I don't understand how bra manufacturers can get away with that.  Don't they have the A-B-C system for a reason??  Anyhow... pre-op I was in a 42 DD, now I am a 38/40 C or D - depending on the brand.  I have found Ambrielle at JC Penney to be the best fit with great support to hold the sagging girls up.  I think eventually I will need a boob job.  My upper arms have some sagging skin, but nothing drastic that warrants surgery - I can live with what I have.  So far the thighs and tummy are shrinking nicely, with no sagging skin, wrinkles or flaps.

It seems as though the hair loss is slowing down.  My hairstylist assures me my hair loss has not been bad - of course it seems more drastic to me, especially since my hair was thinning pre-op.  She gives me the best cut for my fine, straight hair and a little "comb-over" in the front, just above the bangs - that is where it has thinned the most.  I take Biotin twice a day and to be honest with you, I have not noticed any change in my nails.  They were always soft and chipped/flaked easily and that has not improved at all.  So I wonder if the Biotin is working or maybe I need to take more.

So that is it for now.  I will try to post some new pics at the 7 month mark.  Happy losing everyone!!

New Person in the Mirror

May 07, 2009

Ok, I know a lot of WLS patients have body dysmorphia when they lose a lot of weight.  They look in the mirror and still see the same heavy person.  Fortunatey, I don't have that problem.  I was so worried that I would because it is so common after WLS.  But for me, I look in the mirror and I swear I see a skinnier person than I am!  Is that possible?  To see yourself thinner than you actually are?  I'm not complaining here.... I'm relieved.  I see the weight coming off and I like the results.  Now if all WLS patients could see themselves the same way, wouldn't that be great?!

First Time Ever!

Apr 18, 2009

For the First Time Ever I actually LOST weight on vacation............ 3 lbs.......... AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I can look back a year ago, when we went to the same place over the kid's April vacation, and I had gained.  But not this year!  I thought for sure I would have been up a pound or two..... I got my period (while there) AND I drank wine every night.  So to be down 3 pounds is truly amazing!

Down 60 lbs. in 4 months!!!

Mar 11, 2009

My 4 month surgiversary is tomorrow and as of this morning I have lost 60 lbs. from my highest of 244!  WOOO HOOO!  Yay me!!!!

I am wearing XL's and 16's on top, and 18's on the bottom (NOT 18W - regular 18's!)  I had to shop for a new bathing suit and I found one at Marshall's for $25 and it is a size 14.  It's a teeny-weeny bit snug (not uncomfortably), but I figure it will fit perfectly in Myrtle Beach a month from now.

On Feb. 1st a new consignment store opened in Prospect - Aura's Plus Size Consignment - and I shop there almost weekly.  I have also consigned a lot of my old clothes there.  This is where I buy the majority of my clothes now.  I get jeans for about $10 and tops for even less.

On another note... today would have been my dad's 70th birthday.  He passed away on 8/25/92 at the age of 53 from heart disease.  He had his first heart attack at 41, a double bypass at 42, and a triple a couple of weeks before he died.  I am 45 now, and though my cholesterol was never dangerously high, when I turned 43 I felt as though I had dodged a genetic bullet.  Now since my RNY I know I am healthier and hopefully will never have a heart attack.

I chose this surgery to be healthy - and I have to say I have never felt better!!  My blood tests all came back normal with the exception of vitamin D, so I have added 1,000 IU's of D to my daily regimen.

Hopefully I will get some pictures taken today and post them tonight.

The Medical Expense of My RNY

Feb 08, 2009

Ok, it appears that I have received all of the statements related to my RNY surgery in Nov. 2008.  Here is the list and what I had to pay (I had Aetna at the time):

1.  Anesthesia $2,860 billed... $2,158.80 allowed & paid by Aetna.  My balance zero.

2.  Surgeon $6,000 billed... $2,246.54 allowed & paid by Aetna.  My balance zero.

3.  Hospital $37,399.58 billed... $14,274.62 allowed & paid by Aetna.  My balance $735.38, of which $319.36 will be reimbursed to us from our flex medical spending account (that was the last of our 2008 available balance).

LIFE IS GOOD!

I Have Finally Arrived in Onderland!!

Jan 17, 2009

I am sooooooo happy -- the scale finally moved under 200!  Last week was "that time of the month" so I went from 200.5 to 202, then 201.5 again, and finally today 199.5!

On another note, I only have about 3 or 4 pants that fit (size 20) and the 18's are still too tight.  It's the damn spare tire in my lower abdomen.  I've lost a lot through my rib cage area and my butt, but that lower part that wraps around to the hips is gonna be a tough one.

I went to the gym 4 days last week and the one day I didn't I stayed home (below zero temps) and shoveled the driveway after we  got a couple inches of snow.  So, that was some exercise there.

I am feeling great, people are noticing my weight loss and I am on track.  I never imagined I could have lost weight this easily.....  I love my RNY!  I am so happy I did it!
