So how did I get here?
I'm a 42 year old Gospel singer, mother of two ( my daughter is 18 and my son is 15). I've been divorced since 2000, after a 15 year marriage.
My weight has always been a problem...ever since I can remember. Too many "comfort" foods from Grandma combined with the genetic predisposition to obesity I suppose. The bottom line now is that I realized I'm only a couple of years from the age at which my mother had her first coronary by-pass. She had a fatal heart attack in 2005. All my aunts and uncles and many of my cousins have or did have (before passing away) heart disease. Frankly, I have too much life to live to let a heart attack or stroke stop me in my tracks...so I'm working toward gastric bypass and getting HEALTHY.
This is going to really change EVERYthing in my life, so I have done lots of research; and about three years of thinking and praying and talking to friends and family. I'm really ready to do this...and am even beginning to look forward to it!
