4th day post op from Revsion

Oct 15, 2010

What a difference a few days make.  My pain is virtually gone now, just some strange pain in my left shoulder.  I'm thinking I must have been laying on the table in a weird position or something.  Anyhow, I'll live.  Heating pads do wonders.

Well the good news, I've already lost 13 lbs so far!  Woo hoo!  Sure is coming off fast.

Now that I'm feeling better, I need a replacement behavaior to fill my time with.  I'm thinking maybe painting or something sedentary right now, while I'm healing.  But later on (in a couple of weeks) I'm thinking of going back to the gym and maybe even trying out a new fancy gym for a week.  You know the one, that you really can't afford, but always wanted to join when you got rich!  Yep, thats the one.

So bottom line here, I've had no leaks at all, and really the revision portion hasn't been that painful, it was the hernia that gave me more trouble.  But so nice not to have GERD symtoms anymore, and have to pop those heartburn pills twice a day.

One last day without my child, then he's back home for good.  My mini vacation is over.  Wow, what us mom's won't do for a vacation from the kids.

Completed Revsion Surgery

Oct 14, 2010

I am done with my surgery that was on 10/12/10 with Dr. Wetter.  He did my revsion and Heital hernia.  Both a success!  The first day in the hosptial post op I was pretty sore mainly from the hernia repair.  It was hard to breath due to the pain where I was operated on so high up in the abdomen.  But after one incredibly long night in the hospital, where I was awake most all of the time, with periods of sleep too, finally day 2 arrived.  I started to feel better.  Able to breathe a little bette with less pain but still hurts.

The revision part of the surgery seems to be going just fine.  No leaks, as he did a sucher type revision to the original DS stomach, so didn't take it down too small.  Hopefully small enough!  Time will tell.  So I was in the hosptial for 1 day/night total, and now back home recovering.

Day 3 now, and feeling even better.  Really, this surgery is nothing like the first DS one.  Not nearly the amount of pain or throwing up, etc.. I'm trying to stick to the soft diet, but finding protein to be a challenge with that.  If anyone has any tips for the first couple weeks out of meal planning I'd be interested to hear about them.

Hey, already lost 10 lbs!

My Road as a DS patient thru Revisional Surgery

Oct 14, 2010

I made the decision a few months ago to have a revision done on my DS due to weight gain.  The original weight loss 8.5 years ago with DS went well.  Lost 282 lbs.  Got down to a weight of 155 lbs.  I was happy with that, but things changes.  I had a baby with special needs and a problem pregnancy.  I'm an emotional eater, so that certainly didn't help either.

Anyhow, excuses aside, I was ready to make a change for myself, one last time.  The choices were difficult, as many surgeons in our area do not work on past DS patients.  So, I needed to switch Heatlh Insurance plans, to a PPO, and then get working on finding the surgeon.  Long story stort, I finally found him.  Dr. Alfred Wetter in Burlingame.  Great bedside manner, thoroughly explained what he would do,  and would consult with other doctors to make sure he had accurate info.  He was my surgeon, and I think I picked a good one.  Luckily for me he is also an "in network" doctor so our portion of the bill is a lot less (90/10 plan).

Surgery is scheduled for October 12th, 2010.  Revision and Heital Hernia repair, should take about 1.5 hours in surgery.

Stay tuned....
