Battling Awful Nausea!

Feb 22, 2008

It's been one full month of dry-heaving. I definitely didn't expect so much nausea going into this whole journey. My husband took me to the E.R. last night. Dr. Pleatman said I needed to get an IV since I was so dehydrated. They gave me two bags. They also gave me an IV push of Compazine (for nausea) and a prescription for Phenergan. (I am currently on Zofran)
I may be having an Upper GI to see what's going on.
All this nausea is exhausting.

I'm Alive...

Feb 13, 2008

I made it through surgery. Turns out I have BAD reactions to any form of "narcotic" pain medicines...I suffered awful nausea due to the morphine  and Dialudid...finally they gave me an I.V. push of Toradol and it stopped the dry heaving. I am back to work now but still battling AWFUL nausea. Every smell and sight makes me dry heave. Dr. Pleatman prescribed Zofran for me and it helps somewhat but not nearly enough. I hope this ends SOON. I am down 21lbs, so that's good! I think the biggest eye opener for me (and tears shed) other than the nausea, has been the inability to drink water...and I don't mean "sip water" I mean really take a nice fulfilling gulp of ice cold water. I use to love taking my trusty old rubbermaid water bottle, filling it up at our water cooler and just chug-chugging away...I have literally cried about it, feeling dehydrated and deprived...it may seem silly, but it's the weirdest stuff that you encounter that knocks you to your knees. If I take a sip of ice cold water and it goes down wrong...the world stops...EEK it hurts! Also, the painful feeling after eating, (even if you follow all the rules) I've had a teaspoon of broth hurt...it all depends on the moment, and I feel NO relief until a series of painful little burps and air are released. This is definitely an experience...but hopefully next summer I won't lay like a beached whale in front of the air conditioner or be embarrassed because I'm too big to comfortably fit in an amusement park ride, or the frustration of huffing and puffing through our whole family vacation...hopefully I will be able to be a healthy energetic mom for my son and then it will be all worth it.

The Countdown Has Started...

Jan 22, 2008

We leave for Detroit tomorrow...meet with the nutritionist, Dr. Pleatman, etc. then go back to the hotel room for the night and the next morning...it's surgery day! EEK...nerves are setting in!

Getting Closer...

Jan 08, 2008

The big day is getting closer. I am getting nervous. I can't believe how close it is. This is going to be such a life changing event.

I have a date!

Dec 07, 2007

January 24th is the big day! I can't believe it. I am very happy. My surgeon is Dr. Mark Pleatman. My wish is coming true!

Orientation

Oct 03, 2007

I am signed up for orientation with Dr. Pleatman later this month. I can't wait to go and hear about the procedures and meet him. I attended an orientation last month at MMPC that was very informative but out of the question for me (price-wise) since I'm a self payer.

New News

Sep 24, 2007

After talking last night, my husband and I have decided it will be best to self pay by taking a loan out on his 401K. I think that is so kind and loving of him to make this dream come true for me.

Getting Started

Sep 22, 2007

After much consideration, research, and sleepless nights, I have decided to go through with WLS. Insurance is going to be the tough thing. The United Healthcare plan I have has an exclusion to any WLS regardless of medical neccessity or not.
