Gas Pains

May 01, 2010

It's day 3 post-op for me now and while I'm doing better than I was, I still don't feel great.  I didn't expect the recovery to be quite this hard.  After I posted my last blog I became nauseous, and pretty much stayed nauseous the whole day. I know I didn't get enough fluids in, but I was still peeing.  I actually called my Dr.'s office around 7pm, but didn't get a call back. I would have called back but by then it was 8:30 and I knew all the pharmacies closed at 9 so I just went to bed.

Yesterday was better.  I started the day out pretty light headed, but mid day I was able to take in a good amount of fluids, and even "passed gas!!!" I can tell that my GI tract has totally woken up and that feels much better.  I did feel some tightening of the band at one point when I was eating jell-o so I knew it was time to stop.  It was kind of good to feel that the band really is in there :)

I am still having a lot of pain in my left shoulder but I'm sure that most of it is related to the gas.  It kind of hurts all of the time, but gets worse when I have a hiccup or have to burp and then the pressure is pretty intense.  I can't wait for that to go away!!! The incisional pain is tolerable and I have been walking a lot-it's just that darn gas pain.  I realized last night too that it is my pain meds making me light headed-and I thought it was because I hadn't had enough to drink.  So I'm going to skip out on those as long as possible because they make me feel worse instead of better, or only take them just before I go to sleep.  The heating pad has done just as good a job of pain control.

I'm excited to be on my way in this journey!
