I am supporting my daughter Anne who is 22 with research into WLS.  She has high fasting insulin (syndrome X) that causes her to gain weight no matter what she does as far as exercising and diet.  We decided that the VSG is the best surgery for her as we do not want the intestines touched.  She will be self-pay so we will go to the best and the ones that have been doing the VSG the longest.  No one around here does the VSG as a stand alone surgery so we are going to LapSF in San Fran, CA.

Anne had surgery on Sept. 20, 2005 with a BMI of 50 and a blood sugar of 158.  The day after surgery her blood sugar was 85.  As of today Dec. 2, 2006, Anne has lost 151 lbs and has a blood sugar of 75 (normal is 70 to 115)  Her BMI is 25.3 and almost normal !!!!  All of her labs are normal as of one year out.  I think about what it was like before Anne's surgery and the nights that I would lay in bed and cry thinking about her weight, health, and future.  I am so thankful today and just smile when I see Anne and how great she looks and how healthy she is now.  I am so thankful for the VSG surgery and her great doctors.

Anne had an extended TT on Oct. 31, 2006 and is doing great.  She will have a BL/BA with going around to the spine for removal of excess skin and a back lift sometime in the spring.  She would also like to have her arms done to but her plastic surgeon does one procedure at a time since each is extensive.  She will be moving home in February to help save up for the upcoming surgeries and we are saving up as well to help out.

As of today 1/9/07, Anne weighs in at 159 lbs and that is a loss of 151 lbs so far and she is still losing.  She hopes to be down in the 140's be this summer.

Today is  6/6/07  and Anne is down to 151 lbs ( a loss of 159 lbs) and still losing,  We were hoping to have her second round of PS this spring but she could not get time off of work and the cost will be just over $11,000 for the upper body with some lipo in the inner thigh and hip area, so we need more time to save up.  She is feeling great and looking great too.  She would still like to lose another 10 lbs but I think that her next PS will take care of some of that since most of it is hanging skin.
