Almost a Year

Jul 08, 2009

Wow here it is July 8 2009....That is 8 days short of my year anniversary for my first surgery and my what a year it has been. I won't go into the boring details of everything I have indured this year but I will tell you how the last 3 weeks have been.

So I had my revision done which started out laproscopticly but there were complications so it turned into open. The stomach pouch that was made the first time around was made pretty strange according to the second surgeon and the pouch was fused to my liver and old stomach, so that was cut out and removed completely and a new stomach pouch was made...which means bye-bye ulcer...
I also had my gallbladder removed due to stones as well as my appendix though that was removed only as a pricautionary measure.  I was in the hospital for four days and then came home. Since then I have been eating sooo much better and actually ate really good on the 4th of July.  The staples were removed last week and stitches get removed this Thursday. I am hoping I can get the doctor to remove the feeding tube as well but we will see...

All I can say is thank god for Dr. Weiland and his crew at Surgical Associates! Without them I would still be hopeless and miserable.. I look forward to my birthday at the end of August because I am hoping that by then I will be eating normal food for the first time in a whole year....

Oh I am currently weighing in at 130lbs. and wearing a size 8/10....I seriously can not even remember ever wearing those sizes....I have been asking for clothes for my birthday so hopefully I get that...I also asked for a gym membership and the Wii Fit.

Well as this trip been hell or what! So I finally broke down after 5 EGDs and 4 trips to the ER plus one ulcer, to go and get a second opinion and what I assumed was right...
Apparently my body is not liking the new order of things and keeps healing the stomach opening closed. If I do not have a revision I am looking at having to go in every 2 months for an EGD to dialate the opening wider. Has this done multiple times can cause scar tissue which could lead to fibrosis or tumors...So I was told...I just had an EGD done yesterday and now tomorrow I go in for an upper GI..Then on the 20th I meet the new nutrionist...Still working on that quitting smoking! Once that is accomplished I can have the revision....I have cut back hugely but still smoke like 2-4 cigs a day....That will change tomorrow though...Starting at midnight I flush the cigs and I am done....Hubby is wanting to enlist in the navy as soon as he can so he isn't here during the "bear" phase...

However I am now at 148 so have lost 155 lbs so far...

Well it has been a bumpy ride for sure but I am still truckin! i have had 2 or 3 endoscopies (can't remember), one ulcer and other micellaneous health issues as well as still smoking (yes i know bad me) after spending 4 months living on chicken broth only things are starting to get better. For starters I look great having lost over 111 lbs. I am now able to eat mashed potatoes, refried beans and various seafood. I will admit though that i do tend to forget to eat quite often...And I now always seem to have a water in my hand or near by.
i am not a winter person and was laid off so can't afford a gym so at this time my only workout has been to box the heck outta hubby with the Wii Sports game.
I started out as a size 28 and now fit into a size 18 which isstill a bit big...

next on my list is to kick the smoking and continue to eat more variety of foods as well as remember to take my vitamins and try to find a protein that works for me everything i have tried has been way too sweet. the nut did say that I am malnourished but heck what do you expect when I lost way more then normal because I was starving for 4 months...but i refuse to fail and tell myself to stay positive...
