Harlan Opie

"I first met Dr. Opie at a Kansas City Weight Loss Surgery Support Group meeting where he was the speaker. I was impressed how thoroughly he had researched the procedure and all the nuances and variations. He requires all prospective patients to go through a 1 hour seminar with him, then a one-on-one meeting. I thought he rushed through the seminar and somewhat through the appointment and seemed a little disengaged, but it could have just been a bad day. He did make it a point to talk with me the morning of the procedure and check for last minute questions or nerves. He rounded at the hospital at least twice a day which is rare. He really glowed the last day I was there. I freaked and did not want to leave the hospital even though I really was ready. He talked me through all the reasons why I was more stable than I thought I was but still worked it to where it was my decision to leave. I'm willing to drive the 2 hours to go back to him for other surgical issues I might ever have."

Olathe Medical Center

"This was one of the best hospitals I've ever seen. The staff was to a person friendly and kind to me. The floor staff worked 12 hour shifts so they had time to get to know you and your needs. They answered call lights within seconds and were right in the room with whatever you wanted. O.R. staff, Radiology, PT and OT seemed genuinely interested in me and knew what they were doing. Even had visits by Marsha, the Bariatric program coordinator, and several hospital staff who had the procedure. The hospital even brought in a new bariatric bed for me (extra tall). The only minor issue was when I was leaving no one could turn up a wide wheelchair. I gave up and walked from my room to the car which was probably better for me. I highly recommend this hospital without any hesitation!"
